Georgiana is exactly two-and-a-half years old today. It’s amazing to think that I have been a mummy for so long. I feel very lucky!
On the whole, Georgie is still her normal happy-go-lucky self, taking life as it comes and enjoying adventures and creative play. She has really started to blossom in so many ways over the last few months, in particular with her speech, and by becoming more outgoing too.
You can now hold whole conversations with our little girl, and she has gone from just stringing one or two words together to proper sentences and little speeches. The things she comes out with sometimes are just hilarious, and occasionally so clever for such a small person that James and I stop and stare.
Georgie refuses to count past three; although she knows perfectly well that four comes after three, she thinks it is hilarious to get it wrong on purpose with James and myself. She has counted properly up to five or six for other people though – but mostly only when her parents are absent!
Our little girl is obsessed with trains, loves animals, worships all things Peppa Pig, and adores playing mummy to her Melody doll, who frequently accompanies us on our greatest adventures. Her imagination and creativity are both amazing to me and I am encouraging them to grow as best as I can. We have lots of wooden tea parties and pretend picnics, build things with blocks or duplo, and she has really started to enjoy colouring and painting too.
I couldn’t have asked for a better big sister for Lydia, and the way that she looks out for her baby sister and obviously feels like certain things are “her job” makes me feel so proud! Every day Georgie fetches Lydia’s toys for her, kisses & cuddles her, takes away things she shouldn’t be playing with (“No Lydie, too little”), and shares her snacks with her. She loves to push her on the swing when we are at the park, and at bedtime every night she demands that her Daddy “go get my Lydie” before she will lie down and goes to sleep.
Of course, she has her moments – as I am sure every two year old does. She’s not keen if Mummy decides that she has had enough screen time and Peppa Pig gets turned off! Thankfully we have managed to avoid too many public temper tantrums so far, although she still has major freak outs every time we are in a public bathroom and someone uses the hand dryer. I think she tends to be too excited about whatever we are doing when we’re out & about, to bother being grumpy.
Afternoon naps are a thing of the past, unless she is feeling unwell or we have done something really tiring in the morning/day before. The plus side to this is that she tends to chill out in the afternoons and play quietly with her toys or snuggle under a blanket with a film on – I can still get some work done quite often, and she rests a bit – and we skip the after nap grumpiness she used to have! Her bedtime has moved a little earlier, too.
Georgie is not a morning person in the slightest, and the lights are not all on until she has been fuelled with a bowl of cereal and at least half an hour has passed since she emerged from her bedroom. Try asking her a question and you are answered with a blank stare and a grunt. Once she has woken up though, she is much more sociable than she used to be, and loves spending time with people – her initial shyness fades much quicker than it used to, and her silence around new people is a thing of the past.
Reading is a big part of Georgie’s life, and she reads to herself, to Lydia, with me, and has a bedtime story of her own choosing each night with James. She will sit with a pile of picture books next to Lydia and make up stories to match the pictures, babbling out loud. She sings sometimes too!
