Yesterday afternoon as we were driving back home from my mother-in-law’s house, I asked James to stop for five minutes at the park so that Georgie could go conker hunting before it got too dark; I had promised her that we could go at the weekend but we got so caught up in the house drama and talking to estate agents that time ran away with us.
James pulled over into a picnic place in the hopes that there would be a horse chestnut tree there, but instead all Georgie could find were acorns. She collected them up and popped them into the beloved mini shopping bag her Grandma bought for her at the eden project.
Good, but not good enough! We headed on to the park a mile or so from our house to squeeze in 10 minutes of conker collection before getting home… Georgie literally had to be dragged away and was picking up conkers that I couldn’t even see! It wasn’t quite dark yet, but the shadows of the tree made it really difficult to see much underneath them.
Even in the dark shadows of the giant trees, I was surprised how many one small person managed to collect in a short amount of time. The ground was absolutely littered with conkers, so it wasn’t too hard to find them!
She was disappointed to miss her chance at the slide and swing that she knew were hidden around the corner, but I didn’t think James would be impressed if we disappeared into the growing gloom to have some fun in the play area before going home to eat dinner.
I will have to try and get back over to the park in full daylight for some more conker hunting this week… and to let Georgie go on the slide of course! Let’s hope the weather is kind to us. If it’s not, I have no excuse to avoid starting the dreaded packing up of all our worldly goods!

We have found a couple here or there but this has been the first time we’ve been near a conker tree since they have properly fallen! She was very pleased with her haul!
The weather is still miserable so I think we are going to have to shelter inside this week 🙁
