At the weekend we headed to Birmingham Sea Life Centre to collect our Ambassador annual passes (yay! Looking forward to a summer holiday full of Sea Life visits), and check out their new Lego City Deep Sea Explorers event.
As soon as we were into the centre the girls headed for their favourite area – the penguin ice adventure. I am pretty sure Georgie and Lydia would quite happily spend several hours watching and talking to the penguins, and I am looking forward to timing a visit with a penguin feed sometime soon.
It wasn’t long before we were walking around the centre and enjoying all the amazing sea creatures that live there. It was great to spend some time in the new Sea Stars area again, learning more about the variety of starfish they have there.
We were able to go around the centre with one of their Aquarists which was fantastic, as we were able to ask questions all the way around about the different fish and creatures, and lean about their different breeding programmes.
There is a new film on at the 4D cinema; 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. James and I both enjoyed this, but the girls were a little spooked by the special effects. They didn’t want to leave the cinema though, and chose instead to watch the film from the safety of my lap! It is based on the Jules Verne novel of the same name, and is really quite fun to watch.
As we explored the centre, we kept our eyes peeled for hidden objects made from Lego, and at the end they even have some Lego on hand for children to build their own sea creatures, to display on their stand. Georgie and I built a very strange blue & white sea tortoise.
Lego City Deep Sea Explorers will be running until 31st August, and each child who takes part gets a log book to record their Lego treasure hunt in, and then an activity pack with a certificate, cardboard scuba mask, origami fish, and Lego stickers. The girls love their packs, and Georgie wants to take her fish back to the Sea Life Centre soon to introduce it to the fish there. It is certainly worth a visit for Lego fans.
