Earlier this month we went to see Marvel Universe Live: Age of Heroes at Arena Birmingham, taking Georgie’s best friend Lily along to enjoy the show with us. We went to a pre-show event too, and the girls were very excited to meet Spider-Man!
Marvel Universe Live is a live action show, featuring a whole host of characters from the Marvel universe, including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Fist, and a bunch of bad guys too. Loki is the main villian of the piece, aided (and betrayed!) by Nebula. you also see Yandu and his crew of Ravagers, and a variety of Spider-Man’s biggest enemies too.
Doctor Strange introduces the show, explaining the plot. It’s fairly basic; a magical wand has been stolen from the Nova Empire and the heroes have to work together to get it back into safe hands. Loki wants the wand so he can rule over both Asgard and Earth, but Nebula wants it for herself, and Yandu is after it too.
The show is full of amazing stunts including some pretty impressive motorbike tricks, and lots of jumping, acrobatics and flying. A fantastic cinematic soundtrack combined with pretty stunning special effects make it a feast for the eyes and ears – it’s pretty spectacular!
The kids really enjoyed the show, and oohed & aahed all the way through at the heroes flying about and saving the day. There are some great fight sequences, and the huge screen at the back of the performance space was well used to create different scenes and storytelling elements.
Of course at the end of the show the heroes save the day and the enemies are all defeated. The show is littered with famous catchphrases and moments of humour, helping to make it very entertaining.
Tickets are a little expensive but it is a huge production, with big set pieces and all kinds of effects, so it is understandable. We definitely really enjoyed it but as always take snacks in with you as they are charging a small fortune for treats & merchandise!
