My little girl is definitely feeling a little under the weather right now. We’re pretty sure she’s teething (AGAIN), and I have a feeling that it is the root cause of her strange sleeping and eating patterns, along with the dodgy tum she’s been experiencing the last few days. To put it bluntly: her nappies are really quite unpleasant lately, and there are various items of clothing soaking in the utility room as I type.
This subdued version of my daughter is rather demanding though, I have to say. Rather than run around playing almost every minute of the day, like normal, she is spending lots of time cuddling soft toys, the dog, and finally me (and yes, I am last on that list for a reason – Homily is getting more cuddles than me!). She is forever tucking herself in under the blanket on the sofa with me though, which is rather adorable. Only once she’s given every teddy a good cuddle and tried to sit on the dog, of course.

And then we come to the demanding bit. Once she has climbed up onto the sofa and settled down, she sometimes decides that it’s time to snuggle up and watch some tv. Oh, how I wish she had more than a dozen or so words already! “Choo-Choo!” is Thomas the Tank Engine, but other than that & “Raa Raa!” I’m afraid her method of asking me to put something on the TV is just a case of throwing the remote at me. Georgie isn’t really one for subtlety, you may have noticed.

Yesterday we got back from a late shop at Asda and she wasn’t quite ready to go to sleep so I suggested we cuddle up for a minute and chill out while she had her bedtime milk and calmed down. Georgie decided that this should include some entertainment, and what followed went a bit like this…
*pick up remote and deliver to mummy* ok, let’s try Pingu, he’s a popular choice right now *retrieve remote from mummy’s lap and give throw it back at her* how about Choo-Choo? Let’s see if you want to watch Thomas *grab remote, fling at mummy* ok… Show Me, Show Me? *grab, thwack* Raa Raa? *thwack* Umm.. Baby Jake? *THWACK* In The Night Garden? *Big grin and snuggle into mummy’s lap*
We’d get about 30 seconds or so into the opening credits of each show while she pondered the screen, before rejecting it and clearly requesting a different option. I tried giving up completely and turning it off but that was not a popular choice either!
Really.. I don’t have a problem with her watching what she wants to (within reason of course, I think she’ll have to wait a few years before I let her watch Silence of the Lambs!), but I am looking forward to her being able to verbally ask for what she wants. Her methods of communication right now are effective but can be rather frustrating on occasion!
