Review: With two girls studying for their GCSEs (not to mention two parents working from home!) we go through a lot of stationery in this house, even with the rise of digital homework, so when Pen Heaven offered to send us a selection from their Back to School range, I gratefully accepted! The girls’ school requires a pretty well-stocked pencil case, and they always need notebooks for revision & maths work, so this selection of back to school stationery from Pen Heaven was perfect.

I’ll admit I claimed the green Parker Jotter ballpoint pen for myself – they are such lovely pens, being refillable, well made, with a plastic body & brushed steel cap, giving a smooth writing experience, looking great, and being a perfect size to keep in a handbag – it’s always useful to have a pen handy. It has the iconic Parker clip too, of course, in addition to a push-button mechanism to retract the nib.

I love the green shade they’ve used for this one, and having used one of these pens for years already, I know they pass the test of time – I think I got my previous one when I was at Uni, so it’s survived over two decades already. I was impressed by the budget-friendly price on the Pen Heaven website, too, as it certainly doesn’t feel that cheap – and it comes in a lovely gift box, too.
The girls settled on a LAMY pen each, and are very pleased with them. They are comfortable to use and give a generally good writing experience. The stainless steel clip makes them easy to attach to their notebooks, and they both have a subtle texture to the grip area, making them easy to hold onto while writing. Both pens have flat areas on the body that prevent them from rolling away on your desk, too. Both of these LAMY Safari pens have a modern & subtle style to them, making them look smart but not boring.

The Meteorite ballpoint pen has a glossy black finish, and a retractable nib with a hugely satisfying push-button mechanism. It comes fitted with a black ink refill, and it is easy to replace this when needed, with Pen Heaven selling the compatible refill in blue, black & red.
The Meteora rollerball is a deep purple colour, with black details. The rollerball variant of the Safari pen has a removable lid that clicks securely into place on the pen, and can be kept on the end of the pen when in use. As with the ballpoint pen, you can buy a refill when needed – this one comes with a blue ink one already inside, but Pen Heaven sell the compatible refill in blue, black & red.

Both LAMY pens seem to be sturdy and a good choice to survive high school life, where they will certainly be put through their paces! Both the rollerball & ballpoint pens are available in the deep purple Meteora & black Meteorite colourways, and the Safari range has quite a variety of pens & pencils with lots of colour options, too, so there should be something to suit most tastes.
The price is probably a bit more than I would usually have previously spent on the girls for school, I admit, as I would have been worried they would misplace them too easily. Now they are both teenagers and getting into the serious years of study, I will just have to hope for the best and hope these two don’t get misplaced until they need to have refills bought for them, at the very least! Over the past year they have been pretty good at using refills for the Legami pens that Pen Heaven sent us to review last year, so I definitely have my hopes up when it comes to these two.

Lastly (but certainly not least!) Pen Heaven sent over two Moleskine XXL Student Cahiers to try out. Lydia and Georgie chose one each, and were very pleased with the high quality & little extra details that Moleskine are known for. The XXL size notebooks are close to A4 size – but not quite – and are a nice size for the girls to sketch in or do their revision. The ivory paper is a smooth 70 g/m², with the notebooks available in both ruled and plain options, with black, green, and red covers.
There is a space on the front of these student notebooks for you to place the included Subject sticker, if preferred, along with some additional stickers to annotate your work with. They also come with sticky bookmarks to help you organise your work, and feature a pocket on the inside back cover for storing loose papers.

With rounded corners, flexible covers & hand-stitched spines, these are really lovely notebooks and will cope well with being thrown in and out of the girls’ school bags. The last half of the 120 pages are perforated for easy removal, too – which is always handy. For less than a tenner, these are well priced for the high-quality notebook you are getting.

All in all, we are really pleased with the selection of back to school stationery from Pen Heaven, and happily give every item they have sent us a five-star rating. With the girls going back to school this week, they are certainly pleased with these new additions to their school equipment, and I think they’ll be getting plenty of use as they head into another year of GCSE study.
