Review: We were sent the Diono Monterey2 high back booster for Georgie to test out, and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect; Georgie is just at that stage between nearly growing out of her toddler car seat, and just going over the minimum requirements of a booster seat. Being so tall yet skinny, Georgie is really light for her age and obviously we wanted to wait until her weight was definitely over the 15kg lower limit – which meant waiting until now.

The Diono Monterey2 is a smart looking group 2/3 expandable high back booster seat, with ISOFAST fixings to connect to the ISOFAST connectors in the back of your car seat, which help the booster seat to stay securely in place. This seat uses your car seatbelt to secure your child (and the seat) into place, with easy to use guide slots for the belt. The places to feed the belt through are bright red and stand out from the seat, so it’s really easy to safely strap in your child.

Georgie finds the Monterey2 really comfortable and has fallen asleep in it on more than one occasion – a sure sign of being comfortable! It has plenty of padding for safety & comfort, and the fabric covers are really nice to touch. You can remove the fabric cover & hand wash it if needed.

The seat has a cup holder on each side, which has proven to be really useful – they rotate out of the car seat to hold your child’s drink – but can be pushed back in out of the way when not needed. Georgie is able to get it out herself and always puts her drink safely into the holder, which reduces spills while keeping her drink within arms reach. When we first got the seat I must admit I thought it was a bit of a novelty but it has very quickly become much appreciated as she uses it all the time!

The seat was really easy to put together and fit – you simply clip the two parts of the seat together and then tighten two screws to make the seat the right angle for your car seat. The ISOFAST hooks then clip onto the ISOFAST connector, and you use adjuster straps at the front of the seat to tighten the seat against the back of the car seat. James moved it into his Mum’s car recently when she had the girls for the day, and it was so easy to remove and install in the other car, it took hardly any time at all and felt really secure once in.

One of the best things about the Monterey2 is that it is hugely adjustable – as well as the headrest adjusting over 16cm with 11 different positions, this booster seat has an ingenious width adjuster too. The back of the seat adjusts to a width of 50cm which makes it perfect for growing children.

Overall we have been really impressed with this seat and Georgie absolutely adores her “big girl seat” with it’s arm rests and cup holders. She enjoys having more leg room and being able to use the tray that folds down from the back of her Dad’s car seat too, which is helpful for long journeys, and not something she could use in her previous car seat as there wasn’t enough space for her legs.

5 stars for this great seat from Diono.
