Review: I have been hankering after a nice bedside light for a while so when Valuelights gave us a few options to choose from for our latest review, this birds lamp jumped out at me. James & I both enjoy wood textures rather than plain, so this lamp fits right into our bedroom.

The table lamp came fairly well packed, inside a plastic bag & with cardboard protecting it from being bashed.

The form of the lamp is fairly simple; a wood veneer cylinder with a basic lamp fitting in the base of it, with three small feet at the base leaving a gap for the cable to go under. The switch is a basic one in line with the power cable, and you get a reasonable length cable.

When switched on, this lamp looks fantastic. A design appears with silhouettes of birds sitting on branches, which is really effective in it’s simplicity. I really love the way it looks, and it makes me smile to see it appear when I flip the switch.

The light thrown off by this lamp is soft and warm, and ideal for me with my headaches making lighting in our bedroom tricky at times – when I’m light sensitive just having this lamp on is great as it isn’t too bright and there are no gaps where I’ll get dazzled by looking directly at an unshaded bulb.

Annoyingly, there is a little hum when the lamp is on but I only notice it when it is dead quiet.

At £24.99 this isn’t the cheapest table lamp in the world, but it is a reasonable price and there are certainly a lot more expensive ones out there. The quality is ok and it looks fairly pleasant while off, if a little plain.

Overall we have been delighted with the bird table lamp, it makes an ideal bedside lamp – and I’m quite tempted by the matching pendant lampshade too. 4 stars.
