At the seaside

We’re having a lovely week in Cornwall, and we were lucky enough to have some glorious sunshine on the bank holiday weekend, which only means one thing when you’re this close to the coast… beach day!

We spent two consecutive afternoons at Widemouth Bay and Georgie had an absolute whale of a time. As soon as we arrived on Friday night, Georgie switched from chanting “GrandmaGrandad” to “sandcastles” – so it was great that we had such great weather to satisfy her request!

On our first trip to the beach we all trooped down from the car and picked a good spot to set up camp for the afternoon – nice damp sand for building sandcastles, not too far from the sea for swimming, and close to the rock pools. As soon as the pile of bags were dumped in a heap the very first thing Georgie did was grab a bucket and spade to start digging! It was less than a minute between the bag hitting the sand and the toddler’s bum following suit, with a spade clutched in one hand and a bucket in the other.

Next up was some dam building with my dad, who unfortunately broke his toe kicking a rock! It didn’t stop him coming into the sea for a lovely swim with me and James though. The waves were fantastic and I really enjoyed going for swim in the sea both days.

Georgie had a paddle in the sea both days we went to the beach, and really enjoyed it. Extreme toddler paddling – dragging whichever grandparent she had with her deeper and deeper! When Dad took her in they went in all the way up to her armpits, and even a mouthful of sea water and her chattering teeth didn’t stop her from grinning from ear to ear as she jumped about in the waves.

Lydia enjoyed lots of cuddles and watching everyone else have lots of fun, and she even had a little paddle each day herself too.

It was all a bit different to our last holiday down here when Georgie was playing on the beach in a padded waterproof snowsuit! We’re hoping for one last beach day before we leave tomorrow morning, so fingers crossed for good weather today.
