We’re in!

Home Chit Chat We’re in!

Hooray! We are all moved into the new house and the internet is hooked up. Of course, I am surrounded by boxes and mess as I type this, and it is going to take weeks (if not months!) to sort things out.

The children are delighted to be reunited with their boxes of toys, with our Kiddicare toy kitchen Georgie’s top priority! She spotted it tucked into a corner under the stairs as soon as we came into the house, and tried to get to it instantly. I had to dig it out and wipe it down for her on Sunday, and it is now fully stocked and she has spent hours happily playing with it as I unpack around her.

Lydia is amazed by the huge bucket of duplo and piles of soft toys that have been unpacked already, and is spending ages inspecting everything she finds. James took the girls down to the very local park to check it out, with much approval.

We are still very much in camping out mode with the cooking – the cooker left by the previous owner is an old gas one and only the hob and grill work (and those not very well!). Our microwave does have an oven mode so we can use that, but it’s not the ideal solution. We have an electrician coming at some point to replace the old fuse board with a new trip switch one, and he will fit the cooker we have ordered at the same time. The fridge freezer left here is a pain too, as it is tiny and we had to be very careful when shopping to make sure that we didn’t get too much food!

We need to buy a few bits of furniture before we can fully unpack; on the must have list are a desk for me to have a dedicated working space in the corner of the living room, and a wardrobe for the spare room, in which we will store some of the girls clothes. I am planning to weed out some toys soon and so the existing toy storage we have should be enough, hopefully.

We picked up Homily on Monday evening and she is delighted to be a solo dog after living with James at his Mums, with her pack of Norwich Terriers. There has been lots of sleeping happening, on the sofa, our bed, and failing those comfy locations being available, her various beds!

Our DIY to-do list is massive and we have various projects in mind that will take us years to work through. It’s so lovely to own our own house and be able to make long-term plans and chat about what we want to do for each room. We’ve never been able to consider wallpapering the girls’ room before so we are going to look at getting a fun paper to do their room up at some point.

  1. Yippi! Moving can be such a pain, but it is worth it to see the kids settle down in a new house and area. Hope you have a lovely first week/month/year! xx

  2. Good luck in your new home. We moved six months ago now and there are still a few boxes need unpacking. It takes time, but I’m really beginning to enjoy my new home now and can’t wait until we can paint the walls. (we have to wait 12 months because it’s a new build)
