Over the summer, Birmingham Botanical Gardens is going to be home to some outdoor theatre, with four adaptations of well-loved classics taking to the stage. We’ll be going along to a few of these as guests of the gardens, and will report back with our thoughts after the shows!
Two theatre companies are going to be putting on performances at the gardens with some wonderful classics; first up is Sense and Sensibility – I am a huge Jane Austen fan so I am really looking forward to this! The details of the four performances are:
Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility – the story of the Dashwood sisters making their mark on eighteenth-century society – Wednesday 13 July.
E. Nesbit’s The Railway Children – the children’s lives are turned upside down by the disappearance of their father – Wednesday 20 July.
J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan – the Gardens are transported to Neverland by the story of Peter Pan – the boy who never grew up – Wednesday 27 July
L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz – the theatre season closes with a brand new adaptation of The Wizard of Oz performed by a stellar cast of West End regulars – Tuesday 16 August
Visitors are invited to bring along a picnic and enjoy the shows from the picturesque lawns of the historic Gardens, but the Pavilion Tea Room will remain open for the duration of the performances with plenty of traditional British favourites to choose from, if you forget to pack a picnic!

I love the botanical gardens, I used to get free admission when I worked at the uni. How lovely they are doing these, I may just have a look 🙂
