I’m speaking at Blog On – Icebreaker Linky

This weekend James and I are headed up to Manchester for the Blog On Conference. I am going to be speaking on Sunday to a roomful of bloggers about WordPress.

I’m not quite as terrified as last time I did this, because it’s no longer my first time, but I’m still pretty nervous. My slides are pretty much completed – and will be shared here on the blog next week. I thought I’d join in with the icebreaker linky so some of you other lovely bloggers coming along can find out a bit more about the nerdy one giving the WordPress talk.

I’m also donating some of my time & “skills” to the raffle, which raises money for worthy charities that are often close to bloggers’ hearts in our online community. Bloggers will be able to enter to win either 5 hours of WordPress support (currently worth £100), or a Media Pack & Business Card design package (currently worth £65). The raffle is always awesome with loads of great prizes – plenty of cash is a necessity for Blog On!

Describe yourself in three words
Geeky, awkward, creative.

How long have you been blogging and what made you start?
I’ve been blogging since I was a teenager, but I started Mama Geek the year Georgie was born as I wanted to blog about our family life, to document it and also to have somewhere to write about all sorts of random stuff!

What was the inspiration behind your blog name?
I’m a parent – and a geek. I wanted to have a family blog but also talk about the nerdier side of life too, like my latest favourite gadgets.

What is the best thing to come from your blog so far?
I think the best thing that has come from Mama Geek isn’t a product or even a holiday, but instead the people I have met and the events – like Blog On – that I’ve been to with other bloggers.

Your most remembered thing from your childhood
I don’t really know – I have quite vivid memories of this holiday we had in Cornwall, camping with some family friends. We would have random meals made up from what was discounted at the supermarket, and one day we had mussels we all collected together at the beach. Some of the food was prepared and cooked by George who got a Michelin Star last year – does that mean I can now claim I’ve eaten food by a Michelin Starred chef, I wonder?!

Something interesting you might not know about me is . . .
I used to be an air cadet, which means I’ve done some random things like taking a somewhat extreme helicopter ride, landed a plane, danced the Charleston, travelled to Canada with a bunch of people I just met the day before, done a LOT of marching about, and got extremely good at putting my hair up in a bun.

Which social media platform best describes your personality and why?
I like twitter, I get to discover random stuff, chat to people and tweet random things! It isn’t as good as it used to be, though. I need to sort out some lists to weed out the spam a bit.

What is your happy song?
Pretty much any Disney song ever. I really love the Moana soundtrack, so I’ve been enjoying that lately.

What is your favourite alcoholic drink
I love a nice glass of chilled Prosecco, or a Bellini. I also really enjoy a good cider – my favourites are Cornish Gold or Rattler.

What is your favourite cake?
Coffee cake is my all time favourite, definitely. My grandma and my brother both make excellent coffee cake! But no walnuts, please!

What is your favourite takeaway dish?
It’s probably a tie between BBQ spare ribs & lemon chicken. Our favourite local Chinese does both these dishes beautifully. When it comes to pizza, I like mushrooms, pineapple, ham & sweetcorn on an Italian base. It’s delicious.

Where is your dream holiday destination and why?
I would love to visit New Zealand – It is a beautiful country, I have family there, and my Grandmother was born there so I am part kiwi! Maybe one day. My parents spent several months there last year and they really enjoyed it.

What would your superhero name be?
I have no idea – probably a geeky one! I see myself more as behind the scenes – I’d be the tech support, like Felicity from Arrow, or Winn from Supergirl!

If you had a magical power, what would you want to have and why?
I would like to be able to magic myself (and other people) anywhere in the world. Instantaneous transportation! That would be so cool, and you could use it for good, too. Plus – no more “are we nearly there yet?!”

What one weapon would help you survive a zombie apocalypse?
I’d like a rifle. I’m a pretty good shot! It is a skill that comes in handy in amusement arcades, the girls like me winning prizes for them.

If you could send something into space, what would it be?
Donald Trump? On a one way trip, perhaps? Maybe with Theresa May to keep him company. They do have a “special relationship” after all. Creepy.

What would you have on your gravestone?
I have no idea! Loving Mum of two little monkeys?

You make headline news around the world in 2 years time… but for what reason?
By then I’ll have been working from home full time for over a year and a half, only emerging for school runs and occasional outings – there will probably be some sort of “mysterious recluse spotted” article written about me 😂

If an EMP wiped out all mechanical forms of transport, how would you get to BlogOn?
By scooter! It might take a while though…
