During the half term break (which now seems ages and ages away, not just last month!), we headed to Felixstowe to visit family, and ended up having a really lovely and quite stereotypical British seaside holiday!
As well as plenty of family time with James’s Dad and grandmother during the week, we spent loads of time enjoying the beach, going swimming, enjoying the 2p machines at the arcades, and generally enjoying the blazing sunshine we were lucky enough to have almost all week.
The girls really enjoyed taking pleasure in the simple things, like throwing pebbles into the sea, and taking a walk around the local nature reserve. We flew their kite, ate quite a lot of ice cream, built sandcastles, had fish & chips on the beach, and paddled in the sea. Felixstowe has a lovely wide promenade so the girls happily scooted up and down the sea front and to visit the Martello Park play area which has loads of different play equipment, along with a few booths selling ice creams, coffees and cakes.
James’s Dad kindly treated us to ferry tickets, and we took the foot ferry across the estuary to visit Harwich, where we learnt all about the Mayflower, ate amazing fresh crab sandwiches and the girls dressed up as pirates – plus more ice cream, of course! The ferry takes you past the docks which we all find really fascinating to watch.
We stayed in a static caravan at Park Holidays Suffolk Sands caravan park, which we have now stayed at a few times. We really enjoy the peacefulness of the caravan park, and it comes equipped with a laundrette and kids play area on site. We got upgraded to a really nice caravan on this stay which was a nice treat.
You also get access to the pool and entertainment building at the nearby Felixstowe Beach park, where they have a fun kids disco each night as well as some kids clubs during the day. We went to the evening entertainment a few times this visit, so the girls could have a dance, play, and meet some of the different mascots. Georgie was delighted to win “best dancer” on our last night there.
I’ve done a little video of our week too, we definitely made some fun memories this trip – proving you don’t need to spend loads or go abroad to have a great family holiday. We are off camping in Wales and visiting my parents in Cornwall during the summer holidays, so hopefully the weather will be as kind to us on those trips as it was on our Felixstowe holiday!
