Rating: (5/5 stars) Review: We were sent two of the Ion8 reusable water bottles to try out, and so far I am really pleased with them both. They promise to be leakproof which, as any parent of a schoolchild knows, is the holy grail when it comes to water bottles! The amount of times the girls have come home with school with damp books and cardigans because their water bottle has leaked in their bag makes me shudder – hopefully, that can be a thing of the past now. We received a large 750ml ‘cycling’ water bottle, which is made from BPA free plastic, and a stainless steel 600ml slim bottle. Both bottles have the same type of lid, which features one touch opening, a locking mechanism to keep it securely closed, and a finger loop for easy carrying. Both bottles are hand wash only, but this is easy enough to do with some hot water, washing up liquid, and some vigorous shaking! I always make sure to rinse it out well when filling it up, too. The larger bottle, which is made from translucent purple plastic, has a handgrip built into the shape of the bottle which makes it comfortable to hold. A measuring scale up the side of the bottle shows you how much water is left, which is a handy way to help you hydrate. The hinged carry handle folds up from the lid to carry it easily on your finger and tucks down out of the way the rest of the time. It feels really sturdy, and you could also use this with a carabiner to attach it to a bag. The lids also have a soft grip around the edge, which makes them easy & comfortable to twist open and closed when refilling your bottle. The spout of the lid gives a smooth flow of water without having to suck, which is better for your eardrums than a lot of sports bottles. The ‘one touch’ opening mechanism is really neat; you press the lower part of the clasp and the lip springs open. To stop this from happening when you don’t want it to, simply clip up the locking ring and it secures the lid so it can’t open up. The lock has a little tab on it to allow easy use; with one thumb, I can flip it down and press the clasp to open the lid. I can then use my index finger to flip it shut again, and reengage the lock with my thumb – it is all comfortably manageable while holding the bottle one-handed. The larger of the two bottles is going to live on my desk. I enjoy drinking water while I work, but I always end up with a small glass that I forget to refill. With a large bottle like this, I can see exactly how much I’ve drunk – which is a visible reminder to drink more – and have 750ml throughout the day. The smaller stainless steel bottle is ideal for the kids to take into school, and will be added into their rota of water bottles. It’s also a good size for popping into a bag for days out. Both of these bottles seem really great so far, and we haven’t experienced any leaking! I can close & lock the bottles, shake them around upside down, and not a drop falls out – which seems pretty good to me. We give the Ion8 range 5 stars.
