A bit about After School Clubs

This term, Georgie is going to two different after school clubs each week. Each one lasts until 4:30 which gives me an extra hour and a half to chill out with my youngest rascal, and Georgie gets to have fun with her friends and learn new skills.

I think they are great. Georgie loves them! I can see her getting more confident each week and they are definitely helping her get out of her shell a bit.

She has been doing cooking club since the start of the Summer term so far, and made all sorts of things, both sweet and savoury. The club even did a Chinese meal for all the parents as the finale before the Summer holiday, and it was great – complete with the kids performing a Chinese style dance routine! Unfortunately her cooking club teacher has been ill for a few weeks and Georgie is really missing it.

This term they have started a sewing club, which Georgie is really enjoying. It is run by one of her old Reception teachers which she loves, and she has been doing both hand sewing and machine sewing, which is great for a five year old! So far she has made me a toy hedgehog and a cushion for her little sister, with a sequinned “L” stuck to the front. It was a huge hit with Lydia and so sweet of Georgie to make it for her!

We only pay £2 or £3 for each club session and I think it is well worth it. Every time I pick up Georgie (after a longer, quieter, afternoon at home than usual!), and see her beaming with pride and excitement to show me what she has created, it makes me smile so much. If your children’s school offers after school clubs, make sure you consider signing up your kids!

  1. I love the things she has made, what a clever girl. My Boo loves her after school clubs, she does choir which she loves. The other groups are rotated each term so she’s chosen to do dancing next term, last term she did cooking.
