While we were down in Cornwall last week, James asked my parents if they would babysit Georgie for an evening so that he could take me out for a date.
It had been so long since we have been out for a meal together without our toddler in tow that I’d almost forgotten what it was like to go out without one. There were no board books, felt tips, soft toys, or bibs in my bag! Sure, we took Lydia with us, as she’s not old enough to take expressed breast milk in a bottle yet, but at least she doesn’t throw food onto the floor.
We went to the Bay View Inn at Widemouth Bay for dinner and both of us enjoyed a scrumptious garlic mushrooms starter followed by incredibly delicious and fresh “local catch of the day” fish and chips, all whilst enjoying the stunning sea view & sunset. The service was great and (having booked ahead) they were really helpful about getting us a window table with a great view and enough space for the pushchair.
Pudding was impossibly yummy too – I ordered the sticky toffee pudding with Cornish clotted cream, and James picked the white chocolate, raspberry & champagne cheesecake. Unusually we ended up swapping plates halfway through our desserts, as we both liked the other’s choice so much we wanted to share both!
Lydia was very well behaved and even slept a while in the pushchair at one point, allowing me to eat most of my main course with two hands! I did feed her a few times, and she had a lovely sleepy cuddle with her Daddy too.
It was a lovely evening and I’m very grateful to my parents for babysitting our teething toddler! Reports indicate she was a well behaved little miss, at least. James and I don’t get lots of chances to spend time together toddler-free, as the costs of an evening out soon mount up when you add in the babysitter fees, so it was a real treat to have the evening together. Georgie has quite a late bedtime (making up for her long afternoon nap), so she is up & causing mayhem for most of our evenings at home usually!
Our evening out was definitely one of the highlights of our week away… well, that and my Mum’s apple crumble.

Sounds like a good night out , so hard to get a kid free night out and when I do I really look fed to it x
