The countdown to Christmas is definitely on now, with less than a month to go, and Advent starts this Sunday. The girls usually have a basic chocolate advent calendar each but they also love to make each other advent calendars by raiding their Lego stash for minifig parts and fun things to put together their own crazy creations.
In the past they have reused old advent calendars for this, in particular those great ones that come with twenty four tiny books, but this year I promised to design them some boxes that we could print out and put together, as they wanted to be able to do a mix of sweet treats and Lego for one another. Now that they are 13 & 11 and the grumpiness has reached teenager levels we are definitely on board to encourage anything that helps ease the spats of sisterly squabbles!
Each box has the day number on the top, front & back, an illustration on the sides, and then a (mostly terrible) festive joke on the underside so they can have a bit of a giggle each day.
I’ve created a colour version (though to save your ink, still on a blank white background) and a line art only black & white version, so that you can colour your own for some added fun. I’d recommend colouring them in before sticking them together – I’ve run out of time with them before I have to hand them over to the girls, so I had to glue some first so I could take photos!
I printed these out on light cardstock before cutting them out, scoring the fold lines & pressing the folds before gluing them together. The boxes are big enough to fit a celebration type chocolate, a few sweets, or a handful of Lego – this ornament set would be a perfect choice.
