I’m really looking forward to the blogger conference BlogOnToys in a few weeks. I’m helping to organise the Toy Awards and we have had some great entries – the raffle is going to be amazing! BlogOn is always a super busy weekend for us and I’ve got a lot to do in the next few weeks too. I don’t know how Laura gets it all done to be honest, I do such a small part in comparison to what she pulls off every time.
Share a photograph (a recent one so people can recognise you!)
Here I am! I’m not sure what colour my fair will be yet but both James and I will be there.
What is the best thing about blogging?
For me, there are two best bits about blogging. Firstly, it has always been a great way for me to express myself about things and straighten my mind out on subjects – plus it’s cheaper than therapy!
The second is the blogging community which really pulls together in times of trouble, and BlogOn is a fantastic example of that. We raise money at the conferences for the community fund, which then helps bloggers in need, and their families.
What was your dream job when you were growing up?
When I was little I wanted to be a helicopter pilot – I was an air cadet as a teen so I did enjoy some time up in the air in light aircraft and did go on a helicopter ride once in Canada.
What is your lucky number?
I don’t have one!
What is your favourite season?
I enjoy them all but do get bored of the endless miserable weather in winter and often spring… Autumn is probably my favourite. Those cold, crisp days with blue skies and colourful trees.
If you had to choose one what would your favourite dish from the Chinese be?
Lemon chicken is my go to – yum! I hate it when it is disappointing though.
What is your useless talent?
I’m very good at Jigsaws. That’s pretty useless but not very interesting, I’m afraid!
If you could keep any animal as a pet what would you choose?
I’d love a pet hedgehog, they are so sweet and they have always been one of my favourite animals. They belong out in nature, though.
Which one meal would you eat forever? (If you had to choose one!)
Roast dinner! You can’t beat a proper roast. YUM. I love chicken or lamb the best, and will quite happily have mint sauce/jelly with roasts of any and all kinds. Also, pigs in blankets are the most amazing food ever.
What is the last thing you check before you lock your front door?
That I have my essentials – phone and keys if it’s just the school run, if I’m going out for longer that also includes kindle, painkillers (the life of a chronic pain sufferer!), planner and headphones.
If you won £50,000 what would be the first thing you would buy?
A new kitchen for our house! I hate ours, it’s ‘original to the house’ which isn’t a good thing when you live in an early 1970s ex-council house! There are things falling apart and it is the ugliest room in the house, argh!
What is your favourite social media channel?
I still prefer twitter to the others, but I also enjoy Instagram. I don’t really like Facebook apart from the groups side of things, and mostly use it to chat to people on messenger!
This past year has been a pretty stressful one at times, though, and I took a bit of a break from the internet being all consuming all the time, so I haven’t been on any social media super-regularly. That’s not to say I usually ignore my family to be on my phone all the time, but I haven’t been blogging or online as much as I usually would when I get my child free moments, either.
Tell us more about your best ever holiday
This summer we went to Denmark for three nights and went to the LEGO House. It was absolutely amazing and we had a super busy short break there, and I do intend to share all the details on the blog once the kids are back at school.
Name one cake you rock at baking
My cupcakes are pretty yummy, and always sell quickly at the school cake sales. I enjoy baking but try not to bake too much as not much of the results are very good for you!
Which session are you most looking forward to?
I’m going to be pretty busy with the Toy Awards and so on as a team member, but I am hoping to see at least some of Alex Winter’s presenting session, or maybe Alex Wing’s Go Pro one.
We’ll see how things go on the day – I’m mostly there for the social aspect, to help run it, and to catch up with the PRs and brands attending.
What is your favourite book ever?
Pride & Prejudice never gets old for me. It’s such a great story with brilliant characters and just so well written. There’s a reason my girls are Georgiana and Lydia (although we do hope Lydia’s story has a better ending than her namesake!).
Which special event is your favourite? (Halloween, Christmas etc)
I love Christmas – it is a time for family and tradition, along with a really yummy roast dinner of course! Once you’re an adult Christmas becomes a little boring compared to childhood, but then once you have children of your own it’s an amazing experience, watching them discover everything and see their delight in the holiday.
If the internet vanished right now how would you share your message or life story without a blog?
I would still feel the need to write – this Summer I did some journalling on paper instead of my blog and I really enjoyed that, but I do want to get back to blogging now things are getting back to normal.
So there you have it – my answers to the BlogOnToys get to know you linky. If you are coming please do grab me and say hello and forgive me for being hopeless at names and faces! I will be mostly hanging out in the Players Lounge doing stuff on the day.
