Last year we were staying with my parents down in Cornwall for Easter, and we visited Buckland Abbey to take part in the National Trust Easter Egg Trail, supported by Cadbury. As it was such a success, we were keen to head to one of our local National Trust places to do a trail this year.
We hoped to go to Clent Hills but unfortunately we were ill on Sunday, and when I checked their twitter on Monday I saw that they were pretty much out of eggs. Taking a little girl to an easter egg hunt with no easter egg at the end would not have gone well, so we headed down to Hanbury Hall instead.
My Mother-in-Law came with us much to Georgie’s delight – she definitely missed her Granny while we were staying in Cornwall for months when we were between houses! Georgie clung onto her Granny’s hand the whole way around which gave me a bit of a break, to be honest.
The Easter Egg trail was really well done; for our £2 we were given a map of the ground with Xs marking the spots, and we got Georgie her very own eggsplorer hat too. Of course, she refused to actually wear it longer than a minute or two but never mind! She’s played with it a bit at home at least.
Our aim was to find the various egg signs hidden around the grounds, and note down the letter on each egg. At the end of the hunt, we had to unscramble the letters to work out the secret word – then tell the keeper of the chocolate eggs to receive our reward. Ruth helped Georgie do hers, James helped Lydia, and I did one for myself. What can I say, I’m a big kid – plus I just like chocolate.
Georgie enjoyed the trail very much. The eggs were all placed within an easy walk for her little legs and the gardens were so beautiful. We were very lucky with the weather in the end, and had a really nice outing. We finished off with a lovely lunch in the tea shop which involved a rather delicious strawberry meringue for dessert, yum.
