Ad disclosure: as Sea Life ambassadors we have been gifted annual passes for the purpose of sharing our visits.
It’s the half term holiday, so of course the girls were eager to go and check out what was going on at one of their favourite places in Birmingham; the Sea Life Centre. We had James’s dad visiting for a few days, so we took him along with us, and the girls were excited to be able to show him all of their favourite sea creatures!
During February, the centre is being visited by the PJ Masks! Five interactive Action Stations are dotted around the centre for the kids to play with, and each child can pick up a pencil & trail sheet with questions to answer.
Each Action Station has some sea life facts along the bottom for children to read and discover the answer to one of the questions on the sheet. This is made extra challenging as the stations aren’t in the order of the questions, so you have to figure out which question you are answering. The girls enjoyed working out the answers and playing with the different activities as we made our way around the centre.
As well as the Action Stations, there were Creature Kidnap! stickers on some of the tanks, with dashed outlines for the kids to identify which sea creatures the Night-time Baddies had kidnapped.
Lydia was delighted to meet Catboy at Sea Life – there are meet & greets happening all throughout the day, with a chance to meet one of the three main PJ Masks characters.
Of course, it isn’t a visit to Sea Life without playing with the penguins! Georgie took along one of her small soft toy penguins (she has quite the collection), and the penguins were definitely in the mood to play with her; swimming after the toy being waggled at their window.
Georgie was delighted to spot her favourite Zebra Shark swimming around the Ocean Tunnel, and of course Lydia was very happy to see Mo the Sea Turtle too.
Once we had made our way through the centre and seen all there was to see, there was just enough time for the girls to have a quick scramble around in the small soft play area before we headed out via the gift shop, picking up the girls’ rewards for completing the trail sheets on the way out. Georgie and Lydia both got a medal (100% recycled cardboard rather than plastic – well done Sea Life!) and a sticker for a job well done!
There are some fun & interesting things in the pipeline for Birmingham Sea Life centre, with the Jawsome Sharks (& Friends) event coming up this spring and the Octonauts visiting in the summer.
The most exciting thing is that the UK’s first Sea Otters moving in! Right now they are in quarantine behind the scenes, but we watched an info video about them and they will be occupying the new marine rescue facility very soon, and we’ll be sure to visit – we all love otters.
