Reception year, Georgie’s first year at school, is nearly at an end. All the end of year happenings are happening; the P.E. kit and forest school bags came home today, the last school disco of the year has been boogied at, her after school clubs have finished this week, and her first sports day has been and gone.

Her class photo came home today. I made her sit with me and name all the names, in order – so she will know as she grows up who is who. She still can’t always tell the identical twins apart – she’s not sure which is which despite the name on the embroidered jumper one is wearing… they have a tendency to swap them over.
Yesterday, she came home with her first ever school report. It was glowing, with achieved or exceeded expectations for everything, and some lovely comments at the end. She deserves a treat, and a big cuddle – our little “superstar”. Only one note to work on over the summer, and an attendance rate of over 97%. Our little Georgiana loves school so much, and it is reflected in her behaviour and effort there, and her happiness on a Monday morning. We definitely made the right choice when we put it down as our number one choice all those months ago, it is a fantastic school.
The final parents evening has happened, with very little concerns about her – checking in on her internal battle against shyness – something her Dad and I both still have trouble with ourselves. We all met her Year 1 teacher together (she seems very nice), and had a chat with her lovely headteacher in the corridor too.
Last week, she lost her first tooth, and came home from school with it carefully sealed inside an envelope, which was slipped under her pillow for the tooth fairy. She came running through to our bedroom early in the morning clutching a shiny 50 pence piece excitedly, now stored safely inside her money-box.

We’ve also had her first case of being seriously bullied on the playground. An unprovoked attack from an older child she didn’t know. Georgie seems largely unaffected, and the school dealt with it perfectly. Not a nice first to treasure like some of the others, though.
I am spending my time thinking about teachers gifts, as the last days with her beloved Reception teachers approach at what seems to be hurtling speed. Considering things to do over the summer holiday which stretches out before us like a weird sort of calm after the storm of the last weeks. Wondering how many times I can get away with using our Sea Life annual passes before the girls get bored with going (if they ever do).
We still have the final achievement assembly to attend, and there is one last Reception stay & play for me to join her in the classroom. Georgie has “transition week” for her last week at school, and will be spending her first few days in the Year 1 classroom with her new teacher.
The end of her first year at primary school. It is a strange mixture of firsts and lasts all happening in a jumble; full of moments of bittersweet reflection, excitement, and pride. The past eleven months seem to have passed so quickly and Georgie has blossomed and grown, and learnt so much. Here’s to an enjoyable last few weeks in Reception!
Aww! I hope she has a wonderful last few days in reception. It’s such an exciting time of year and emotional too x
Why is it that sack races no longer have proper sacks?
