New hair for a new year!

Home Deliciously Random New hair for a new year!

I am rather known for my long hair; it is normally one of the first things people notice about me, and exclaim over. Well until this week, that is.

Having decided that I needed a hair cut, I thought I may as well go for it, make the most of my parents babysitting, and get a whole lot chopped off! We left Lydia asleep in her cot, handed the baby monitor over to Dad, then Mum drove Georgie & I into Bude.

Mum dropped me off at the hairdressers, and then took the little scamp to the soft play centre down the road to keep her occupied. Very brave on the last weekday of the school holidays – the place was packed and very very noisy!

Soft play

Meanwhile, at the hairdressers, I was asked the big question: “so, how much do you want off?”. When I said “oh, about a foot or so I think”, jaws hit the floor – both the hairdresser and the lady waiting for her haircut. I walked in with hair I could sit in, and asked the poor man to chop more than half of it off. Once he had gathered up my hair into his hand and readied the scissors, he looked at me nervously in the mirror and asked me if I was sure. Twice!

What was left, he layered & shaped so that it bounces about and has so much more life in it than before. All of my damaged hair from my dip-dye treatment has gone, and more besides, and I am left with hair that only just goes into a high ponytail, and a super perky one at that.

My hair is still fairly long when you compare with some, but for me this is the shortest it has been for over 10 years. I can’t get it all into a low ponytail, and it’s impossible to do a bun at all. I can brush it in less than a minute, as opposed to spending ages fighting with my hairbrush.

I loved my long hair, don’t get me wrong. But it was getting too long, too heavy, and far too time consuming with two kids to deal with too. I chose to dye the bottom section last year, knowing that the chop was on the horizon, and I’m pleased now to be rid of the dry brittle hair I was left with after subjecting it to bleach – my hair has never got on with hair dye and that sort of thing.

What do you think? I’m still getting used to it bouncing around the tops of my shoulders, getting in my eyes and tickling the back of my neck!

  1. It looks great! Congrats on having a successful New Year Chop! The ponytail looks really cute too.

    • Thanks Alys! I find it difficult to get to the hairdressers with two kids on my hands, so I had to be brave and get lots done at once!
