At the weekend we headed into the city centre to check out the Halloween events going on this half term; Brick or Treat at Legoland Discovery Centre and Ascarium at Sea Life Birmingham.
We started off by heading into Legoland, where we picked up a Brick or Treat leaflet for each of the girls, and headed into miniland to check out the Halloween makeover.
Georgie and Lydia had a great time hunting round the centre for the hidden pumpkins, and searching miniland for the letters they needed to answer the question on their leaflet. Lydia also loved meeting a giant LEGO scarecrow, while Georgie stayed a safe distance away, and they both enjoyed creating stop motion films using the spooky Hidden Side backdrop.
Once they had built and destroyed a vast number of LEGO creations, climbed around the soft play, and generally had hours of fun until their bellies started rumbling, we headed out via the shop and grabbed some lunch before taking the short walk over the canal to Sea Life. We did a little early Christmas shopping before we left – and the girls showed their completed leaflets at the checkout and were rewarded with a pop badge each and a chocolate treat.
On our way into Sea Life, we picked up a couple of Ascarium leaflets and a few pencils, so that the girls could hunt for the Sea Witch’s missing items in the tanks. Whenever we spotted an Ascarium sticker we knew it was time to hunt for the things she needs to cast her spell!
There is a special 4D film for the Halloween period, so we went into the cinema to check that out! There were a few “grab onto Mummy” moments in the Happy Family short as it is action packed, with special effects and jump scares. Definitely not one for the really little visitors – one toddler was taken out halfway through as she got upset (there is a sign warning you about this on the way in).
The first occupants of the Mammal rescue centre are moving out soon to return to coastal sanctuaries, so we made sure we said hello to the seals while we were there too. Georgie always takes along a toy penguin to play with the penguins at Sea Life, and she was delighted to capture the attention of one of the seals with it too.
After making our way through the Ocean Tunnel – where both Georgie and Lydia were delighted to spot their favourites Mo the sea turtle and Zebedee the zebra shark – the girls popped into the Sea Witch’s lair and were rewarded for their completed Ascarium leaflets with a special trick or treat bag, complete with a chocolate treat already inside.
