It is common knowledge that I am a complete bookworm; I tried to keep an up to date blog series of “Recent Reads” but got bogged down by the sheer number of books I was reading. Instead of talking about every book I’ve read lately, here are some of my recent favourites instead.
With the increasing popularity of ebook readers, there seem to be more & more Christmas novellas and short stories coming out each year by a lot of my favourite authors. They’re like little bitesize treats of literature and perfect for curling up with on a wintery evening. I’ve been enjoying:
Most of these novellas are continuations of books or series that I have enjoyed, by some of my favourite authors. The Katie Fforde book is actually a collection of short stories, some of which I have come across before, and some of which are new to me. Christmas at the Cove is a standalone novella and quite a fun little story.
My favourite of all of these Christmas novellas was probably One Hundred Christmas Proposals which I really loved. I did enjoy them all though, and thanks to Amazon’s no-rush delivery promotion which gave me (as a Prime user) £1 kindle credit for every delivery I selected no-rush for, I got most of these for free!
The latest Ali McNamara novel is a continuation of her “From Notting Hill…” series featuring Scarlett O’Brien and her fiancé Sean. With this latest serving of the story, we see Scarlett’s troubles living two lives between London & New York, running several businesses and planning her wedding at the same time. Throw in a new famous friend and chaos ensues. It’s a lovely book with some real feel good moments, and a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Next on my list are the two Ransom novels from Rachel Shurig. They follow the stories of a set of brothers who are part of an internationally famous rock band. The stories revolve around different main characters, and their relationships. I enjoyed both of these and look forward to the rest of the series.
Rachel Schurig is also the author for the “Lovestruck” series which I really like; the Christmas novella from the same series is in the list above.
I’ve been enjoying Lucy Diamond’s books recently, and these are the latest four I treated myself too when I was poorly. My favourite of these was probably One Night in Italy because of all the different characters, but I did like them all. The way that Lucy’s books have several main characters that all intertwine together really appeals to me and of course I’m always a sucker for a happy ending! Her books all cost around the £3.49 mark on kindle and I’m sure I’ll be treating myself to some more if I get any amazon vouchers for Christmas!
