Bigjigs Toys Wooden Safari Building Blocks

Review: Georgie’s 3rd Bigjigs Mission 3 package arrived with these gorgeous Safari Building Blocks inside… and a special challenge. We had to make a creative video with our new building blocks, and review the new toy within the video too.

After lots of fun and stacking of blocks, here is our video review!

I’d like to talk about this building block set a little as well, for those who would prefer to read a written summary of why Georgie loves this toy so much.

The Bigjigs Wooden Safari Animal Building Blocks toy includes 32 wooden bricks and a handy carry bag. You can make six different animals with the blocks (and a bit of imagination!); a bear, giraffe, tiger, panda, lion & hippo. Georgie had no trouble recognising the different animals, and hippo was a new animal to her, so it was nice to see her add a new one to her little store of knowledge.

Also included in the set are: sun & moon blocks, two trees, a handful of bushes and flowers, and some plain coloured blocks.

The little storage bag that is included is a really nice touch; we have bought wooden blocks before and several have gone astray as they haven’t had a particularly good storage solution. Georgiana actually really enjoyed collected the blocks up and putting them into the bag, and it gave us a great opportunity to practise her counting, which goes something like this… “1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 10! Yay, well done!”

There are enough bricks here to build some nice stacks and structures, without there being too many to overwhelm a toddler. The variety of colours is really nice too, with all of the primary and secondary colours covered, making it a great opportunity to talk about different colours as you play.

One other thing I thought was sweet about these blocks was that although not all of the patterned/decorated blocks had the design on both sides (which is not necessarily a bad thing, I must add!), the animal heads had the face on one side, and on the other, the back of the animal’s head! This was great as Georgie had to work out which way around the block went so the animal was facing forward.

The safari theme on these blocks is done strongly enough for a little imagination to turn the 32 blocks into a busy jungle scene, but subtle enough for them to be played with as “normal” building blocks too. We had lots of fun stacking the blocks into towers and then making them go CRASH.

With plenty of learning opportunities whilst you play, a fun colour palette and some very sweet safari animals, these blocks get 5 stars from our little Play Patrol agent!
