Birdy Bear Activity Toy

Review: We were sent this toy for Lydia to play with and Georgie decided to help with the testing too! She had a great time demonstrating all of the features for her baby sister, and trying to teach her to squeak the legs!

This soft toy bird is a lot bigger than I expected, with the body measuring around 18cm square and 15cm deep. I know that the measurements are listed on the website but I hadn’t really visualised what that meant. The bird comes in very eco friendly packaging, entirely made out of cardboard – even the string.

The colours and patterns on this toy are bright without being garish, and the whole thing is really visually appealing, with great contrasts and a cute face. The variety of textures is good too, with a lovely furry fabric front & back that Lydia loves stroking.

The legs squeak when squeezed, and have mirrors on the ends – I’ve never know a baby that doesn’t love staring at themselves in the mirror so these were a big hit with Lydia! She hasn’t managed to squeak the legs herself yet but loves it when Georgie does, and I am sure she will get the hang of it soon.

On each side of the bird are it’s wings, which rustle when you play with them. Of the three tufts on top, the black & white one rattles and the smaller green and blue rustle. The back of the bird is home to a wheel, adorned with ribbon tags & embroidered with a spiral. This wheel clicks gently as you turn it. The body of the toy jingles when you shake it, too.

Lydia has really enjoyed playing with this toy and clearly enjoyed the various textures and sounds as she explored all of the parts of the bird. Georgie thinks the wheel is fantastic!

This toy is definitely a premium toy and would make a really lovely gift for any baby between 6 months – 18 months this Christmas, or as a first birthday present. The quality is really great and although it is a little higher priced than the toys we tend to buy for our girls, this is just down to our budget and nothing else – if we had the money to pay for toys like this one then I would be buying gorgeous things like this!

You can find it online for a few pounds cheaper than the RRP of £20 too, which makes it a bit better value for your money – and I think this may be a case of “you get what you pay for” rather than being over-priced.

We give the Birdy Bear Activity Toy 5 stars, but only just!
