As Sea Life Ambassadors, we were invited along to one of their 20th Anniversary special events to help celebrate the centre’s birthday. We got to take one of their new behind the scenes tours, eat cake (Georgie was a fan of this idea at 9am!), and enjoy the latest improvements to the centre. The girls even got goody bags with a few keepsakes and a limited edition pop badge.
In the new Clownfish Kingdom area, we managed to find Dory (Blue Tang) and Nemo! The girls love this area, with a tunnel to crawl through to get closer to the clownfish, and so many brightly coloured fish to see.
The behind the scenes tour was excellent. Our guide was friendly, helpful, great with the children, and you could tell he really knew his stuff. It was amusing, informative, and completely fascinating.
At just £3.50 extra per person I think it is a really good addition to the centre, and I highly recommend it to any sea life fan. It lasted around 15 minutes and Georgie and Lydia enjoyed it just as much as James and I did.
The girls enjoyed making badges to celebrate the 20th Anniversary, and we all found the informative anniversary display boards dotted throughout the centre fascinating. They feature lots of the special moments in the centre’s history, and copies of newspaper articles from the last 20 years.
The new ocean tunnel is so lovely. With 360 degree views of the huge tank they have, you can see sharks swim beneath your feet. The handrails to the sides of the walkway are gone, so you don’t have anything obstructing your view.
It feels much more open and brings you closer to the amazing sea creatures inside the tank. Georgie and Lydia love it and we can all quite happily spend ages in the tunnel watching the fish, sharks, and of course Molokai the Green Turtle.

On the 5th July Birmingham Sea Life Centre celebrates it’s 20th anniversary, and the first 100 people who visit will get the 1996 entry price of £5.95 and a limited edition golden anniversary pop badge. Anyone who was born on the 5th July 1996 can visit for free!
They have a great competition launching too, with the hashtag #IGrewUpWithSeaLife – share photos on the website of your trip to the centre and you could be in with a change of winning a family pass or annual pass.
