SquidgeWatch: 24 Weeks

Home Chit Chat SquidgeWatch: 24 Weeks

I can’t believe how fast this pregnancy is flying by! Apart from the CPP drama everything seems to be ticking along fairly well. After several weeks of not being allowed to lift anything heavy (including our little scamp) I have finally gotten used to thinking before doing, and so have been behaving very well as per doctors orders. James is quick to tell me off if he catches me shifting anything about that I shouldn’t, and is being brilliant moving things about for me whenever he’s home.

I have been experiencing quite a bit of dizziness and a few fainting spells – standing up or moving about too quickly tends to make me unsteady, and there have been a few times that I’ve had to sit down and get my head between my knees to save myself from passing out. I spoke to my lovely midwife Viv about this last week and she isn’t worried about it – as it turns out my blood pressure is a bit low, although within normal pregnancy range, so it’s messing with my head a bit! I’m glad that it’s nothing too serious, although I’m a bit surprised as I have never really had a single abnormal bp reading in my life, even during times of stress or while on medication that can affect it.

24 Week Bump

Georgie embarrassed me horribly at the midwife appointment on Wednesday though; as soon as Viv invited us into the room she sat her bum down and wailed, flatly refusing to come in with me. I literally dragged her by the ankles into the room and shut the door so she couldn’t escape! She spent almost the entire appointment sitting in the corner yelling and crying her eyes out. It was so weird to see her have such a tantrum as she is normally such a sunny happy little thing.

Moments before her major meltdown!

Viv was really nice about it and we did our best to ignore her and get on with things – I think that Georgie is scared of Viv because she takes my blood pressure and Georgie gets really protective of me and worries that it is hurting me! During the bp test Georgie crept over to watch the goings on very carefully, then retreated back to her corner once she was satisfied the mummy torture section of the appointment was over. I think that I will get James to work from home on the morning of my next appointment so that he can watch Georgie instead.

One positive thing about the disaster of an appointment was that I got to hear Squidge’s heartbeat for the first time. Viv managed to find it straight away and it sounded so vital and strong that it was such a reassurance to hear. I’m feeling loads of kicks and movements with this pregnancy, especially compared to Georgie’s pregnancy where the placenta was on the front, and so I get very frequent reminders of the little life growing inside me! Squidge seems to be just like his/her mother and is having lots of spells of hiccups lately.

I find it hard to comprehend that my baby is now the size of a cantelope melon, it seems like I just found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago. This year is going so quickly, it will be Christmas before we know it, and then no time at all before Squidge arrives!
