We took Lydia to see The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical earlier this year for her birthday treat, and we both really enjoyed the songs from the show. So much so that I made my little Rick Riordan super fan this cross stitch with a quote from The Tree on the Hill, which is a poignant song that Grover sings during the epic quest.
I used a variegated thread in this design, and chose to use the Danish method in random batches of stitches to try and make the colour variation more natural looking, since it is depicting a silhouette of a scene from nature. Sirithre has a great post all about variegated thread on her blog which shows how stitching using different methods can create different effects.
Designed for a 5-inch hoop using 14-count aida fabric, this is a fairly quick & easy project to stitch. I used some Cloud Summer Sky aida from Fabric Flair for my piece to give it a sky background, though I think this starry sky fabric by Pllieay would work well too.
The white text looks a little lost against the green in this photo but it does look better in real life, I promise! Especially since I chose to stitch that part using two strands of thread.
