Last week were we invited along to one of our local Beefeater restaurants, George in the Tree, to try out the new Christmas Festive Menu. We were given a list of dishes to choose from, and went along one evening to try out the new meals.
Starters
First up, I had the Prawn Cocktail starter, while James tucked into the Crispy Garlic & Herb Breaded Mushrooms.
The prawns were delicious – a great ratio of prawns to sauce which is surprisingly hard to find – with a very nice sauce, and served with some bread and butter. I ate all of it happily, and enjoyed it very much.
James’s mushrooms also went down well – I snuck a bit and they were really tasty. James is going to be having his work Christmas meal at Beefeater soon, and they must have been a hit with him, as he has chosen to have the same starter again when they all go! It was nice to have a change to button mushrooms, as they were large ones, sliced.
Both starters were well presented, with good portions and sauces.
Mains
For our main dishes, I chose to try the Double Steak Festive Burger, while James opted for the 8oz Fillet Steak Rossini, cooked medium rare.
My burger was amazing. Two quarter pounder steak burgers, topped with slices of streaky bacon, oozing warm brie & finished with a generous dollop of cranberry sauce. It was a great combination of flavours, all complimenting one another & it felt very christmassy, especially for a burger which isn’t something that brings the festive season to mind immediately. Absolutely huge, and served with a big pile of the tastiest skinny fries I’ve had for ages, I’m not ashamed to admit I was defeated and couldn’t clear my plate.
James’s steak was cooked really nicely to his requested medium rare, and tasted divine – he would only share the smallest bit with me, but what I tried was melt-in-the-mouth delicious. It was served with dauphinoise potatoes, a slow-roasted tomato and a very tasty mushroom.
The girls ate from the kids menu, tucking into combinations of cod bites, chicken, fries, baked beans & corn on the cob very happily. I really appreciated the fact the restaurant provided child size cutlery to go with their kids meals, and both Georgie and Lydia ate plenty of food and seemed to enjoy it.
Desserts
Although we were almost full to bursting, we of course made room for dessert. James chose the Chocolate Melt In The Middle Pudding, while I went for the Signature Apple & Cherry Crumble. Georgie had the Mini Chocolate Challenge, with Lydia happily tucking into jelly & ice cream.
Overall we were really impressed with the meal – everything tasted amazing and the service was really great & with the staff being very kind to the kids, which can make all the difference when eating out as a family.
All of the dishes were really tasty, with great flavours, good sized portions, and really attractively presented. A big thumbs up from us for the Beefeater festive menu, it’s a delicious selection of food, with nice twists to the dishes bringing yummy Christmassy flavours. I’ve taken a look at the prices and they are really reasonable too, much better value than I expected. If you are looking for somewhere to go for a Christmas meal out with friends or family, than I definitely recommend this menu.

Great to see you had a good experience – we’ve been there once and we didn’t enjoy much and the food wasn’t great either. Maybe we need to give them another chance! xx
