One year and counting!!

Home Chit Chat One year and counting!!

My poor husband has to suffer through the yearly annoyance of having his birthday two days after Christmas, on the 27th. Usually we have Boxing Day as a “day of rest” between Christmas Day and James’s birthday, but this year that was not to be.

In addition to the fact we started the day feeling tired, James had the additional weight on his shoulders of it being his 29th birthday, which can only mean one thing… one year until he turns 30!

Pile of presents!
Pile of presents!

We started the day with presents in bed (of course!) before heading back over to my MILs once again (third day in a row) to pick up a few things we had left behind the previous evening, including my pregnancy notes & Georgie’s pillow & favourite sleeptime toys… OOPS.Presents

As you can see from the fabulous photo montage above, my presents to my husband were both geeky and awesome. I know, I’m so modest. He does love all three of these gifts though. The helicopter was out of the box and in the air for a (moderately) successful inaugural flight before you could count to ten!

I didn’t spend a big pile of money on the man but we had treated ourselves to an iPad Mini (for him) and a Kindle PaperWhite (for me) earlier in the month after a lovely cheque from Mr. Taxman so it’s not like he has been left wanting after that, especially after Christmas & his birthday!

Our birthdays tend to be low key these days, especially since having Georgie, and this one was no exception, especially as we were all quite tired. Our our way back from Ruth’s house we headed to a retail park where we checked out a few sales and had a really scrummy birthday lunch at Frankie & Bennys.

As for the sales… we got an adorable outfit for Squidge and a monster t-shirt for Georgie in the Next clothing sale, and a gigantic 40″ television at Currys! James had been researching new tvs for a month by this point, and knew exactly which one he wanted, and what was a good price for it.

We were “just going to have a quick look at it”, he said. “To see it in the flesh” and all that. Yea, RIGHT. Later on as we were watching Georgie demolish her pizza whilst reclining on the bench next to me, he asked me if I expected him to buy it that morning. My honest answer… yes! I know my husband. When he wants something, the signs are very clear and he doesn’t usually hold off very long before caving!

Cake

I did come through on my promise and bake him a birthday cake, although it was 2 days later by the time we actually cut into it! James requested that I try this red velvet cake recipe from BBC good food and so I made it the day after his birthday, and we cut into it yesterday. He says it’s very nice but I find it far too rich – I think I would probably enjoy it if it wasn’t for the fact that growing a small human is messing with my taste buds.

Less than a year left until my husband turns 30 and has to be a grown up… and only a few days till I can say “you’re going to be 31 next year!!” hehehehe.
