Disclosure: We were provided with a voucher for the purpose of this post, but it reflects our honest opinion about our visit.
I love roast lamb. It is pretty much right up there in my all time top 5 meals. When we were invited to come along and try Toby Carvery’s new menu, which includes lamb on Sundays, we were happy to go along and try it out.
We visited the Toby Carvery at Quinton, Birmingham, and all had a Sunday carvery followed by a dessert. We also had some (very yummy) pigs in blankets on the side which we shared between all four of us. The kids stuck to their safe choices of white meat, but both James and I tried the lamb and it was totally delicious.
I was pretty impressed with the range of meat and vegetables you can now choose from on Sundays at Toby’s – there is something for everyone, and in particular their roast potatoes were great, which isn’t always the case when eating out.
The only thing I didn’t really enjoy was the cauliflower cheese, but myself and the girls were very happy to see corn on the cob on offer in the buffet. Toby Carvery is pretty famous for it’s Yorkshire puddings, which didn’t disappoint at all.
Our meal came to just over £55, £50 of which was covered by the voucher given to us for the purpose of this review. That included two adult carverys, two children’s carverys, two portions of pigs in blanket, a lager shandy, a mini bottle of Prosecco, a glass of milk, two children’s make your own sundaes, a slice of chocolate fudge cake, and a cookie dough sundae. I think that is pretty good value!
Other than the bland cauliflower cheese, the only other disappointment about our visit is the limited selection of kids’ drinks. We’ve noticed this before at Toby’s; despite having a good range on the menu they don’t often actually have them all.
There is something a bit luxurious about roast lamb; we only have it occasionally at home as we tend to stick to the more inexpensive options of chicken or pork at home. Having lamb at a family friendly restaurant – at family friendly prices – feels like a big treat, I can definitely see us heading to our local Toby’s for a meal again soon.
