The BlogOn Xmas Jumper Linky

I’m off to #BlogOnXmas in a few weeks and have lots of preparation to do first, eek! As well as speaking about media pack design – and actually making one live – I am a member of the BlogOn team, and am helping out with the BlogOn Toy Awards which are happening this year for the first time. All the toys will be on display for bloggers to choose their favourites, and then they will all become raffle prizes at the end of the day… I’ve been seeing the entries come in – trust me when I say there are going to be some amazing prizes!

I’m quite nervous about speaking – I felt shaken a bit after my last BlogOn, where technical problems made it a bit rushed, and I had to skip parts of what I planned to say. Hopefully this time I won’t have to spend the first five or so minutes in a mild state of panic, it’s a bit off putting! We are in a fancy new venue this time, so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

Please share your favourite photo of you.

If you could choose a band to play in your garden for your birthday, who would you pick?

Counting Crows. I love their music, and they are simply fantastic live.

What do you take with you for long visits to the toilet?

Probably my kindle, mostly. Sometimes I take my phone to catch up on the news, which I read mostly through the Apple News app.

I’m always reading and carry my kindle around the house with me. We recently upgraded me to the Kindle Voyage (ooh, swish!) and I love it… I read so much that it was really nice to indulge in the higher spec model when my Paperwhite needed replacing.

What word can’t you spell?

Before I learned the pen/car trick I used to have trouble with stationery/stationary but I always remember to check which is which now. Diarrhoea is another tricky one, I always have to double check that.

What’s the most unusual job you’ve ever had?

I’ve done a few random ones, like manning the ice rink at the Eden Project, but the most unusual was probably working in the Green Glass factory, turning wine bottles into glasses and tumblers. I have a whole bunch of seconds at home that we use, they are lovely drinking glasses!

Knitting, sewing or crotchet?

I love to crochet but do dabble with knitting & sewing. My last project was the Attic24 weekend bag, after my parents gave me the kit for my birthday – I’m really pleased with how it turned out, though I need to shorten the strap a little.

Without looking it up, what is a jerkinhead?

I have no idea. I’m guessing it’s some sort of insult? I’m off to look it up…

Oh. Well that’s surprising – and a bit random! Mind you, Urban Dictionary has a much ruder definition than Collins have!

If you could have as much of one food as you wanted forever, what would it be?

Hmmm. This is tough. I have a real sweet tooth but I think that it would bore me a bit to have the same thing forever, I like a bit of variety. I do like pizza though, I could probably eat a pretty constant stream of pizza!

What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

I can be pretty nervous about heights so freefall abseiling off a bridge is pretty high up there. I was an air cadet in my teens so did some pretty fun stuff like that, if a little scary. Also talking in public – being a speaker at BlogOn is a huge challenge for me and I get scared every time – and am not going to be talking at any other conferences any time soon!

If you needed a getaway driver, who would you choose?

My husband, James. He can drive pretty fast when he wants to, and because he’s my husband he’d have to keep whatever I’m involved in that requires a getaway driver a secret!

James and Zoe Corkhill

Would you rather live in Narnia or at Hogwarts?

Hogwarts! I love the Narnia stories but if I could live in the world of Harry Potter and practise magic I totally would! I’ve already been sorted on Pottermore and everything… Gryffindor House, here I come!

What snack food says ‘Christmas’ to you?

We always seem to buy endless tubs of Treeslets at Christmas (but hardly bother with Cheeselets when it isn’t December!), so definitely those. I also love a good tub of Celebrations at Christmas time.

Is there life on Mars?

Possibly? I don’t know. If not, maybe elsewhere in the Universe. I think this quote from Contact says it best: “The universe is a pretty big place. It’s bigger than anything anyone has ever dreamed of before. So if it’s just us, seems like an awful waste of space.”

Which Christmas movie would you be a character in, and who would play you?

I love the Miracle on 34th Street so maybe that one – no idea who would play me though!

What are you proudest of?

It is cheesy, but my kids. They are pretty well behaved, fairly polite, and completely hilarious. I look at them and still can’t quite believe that we made two people, and they are turning out pretty good so far. Go me. I’m also pretty proud of myself for the whole making money by working part time from home, doing something that is completely self taught and that I really enjoy. It lets me be a Mum whilst also contributing a little to our income and keeping my brain working too.

  1. I love your answers. I had no idea that you were really so scared of speaking publicly, you do it so well – even when your equipment breaks down!
That quote from Contact is perfect I think. We’d be terribly arrogant to assume we were the only ones out there/here 🙂
Really looking forward to seeing you again, thank you for taking part in the linky 🙂 x

  2. I struggle with public speaking and always get the worst nerves when I have to present, the most nerve wracking being in front of all of the senior execs at my business – thankfully I didn’t mess up! My hubby adores Counting Crows. I’m popping over for the Blogon Xmas Jumper linkup – it’s my first time going x

  3. Ah, good luck with your session! I’m no good at public speaking at all, but I’m sure you’ll do great. It’s my first time but the toy awards (from what I’ve seen) do look amazing already!
