I am really looking forward to Christmas this year. One month to go!
Everything I have to do between now & then, not so much. Looking forward to Christmas is helping me to get through the stress of packing up our belongings once again and filling up a storage unit with a large percentage of our worldly goods. Trying to work out what to take to Cornwall for our extended stay, trying to work out what to pack right now & what we might need accessible in a few months if the house buy isn’t completed by Lydia’s birthday… all this is stressing me out no end!
This Christmas is Lydia’s first Christmas. That is something you don’t get to do twice, and I am so looking forward to seeing her face the first time she sees a Christmas tree, to dressing her up in a Christmas outfit, giving her a proper Christmas dinner, and watching her enjoy her gifts.
Georgie already has two Christmases under her belt. At two and a half she now recognises Father Christmas, loves snowmen, and is already getting excited about things even though she is still not quite enough to understand everything. This is the first year that she is really old enough to open all her own presents (and not get bored halfway through or get too tired & fall asleep!) and take part in Christmas traditions.
Last year Christmas ended up a bit odd after James’s Granny took a bad fall early in the morning on Christmas Day, and I ended up cooking Christmas Dinner (7 months pregnant, no less) on Boxing Day, and we had cheese sandwiches for lunch on the day itself! We will be in Cornwall at my parents for Christmas this year, as we have been planning for basically the whole year (I do like to book in early!). We spent Georgie’s first Christmas with my parents in Cornwall, and I am pleased that they get to see Lydia’s first Christmas too.
After the girls are in bed on Christmas Eve, we will decorate the house & set up the tree – so that it is a magical Christmas wonderland in the morning! Stockings are opened in the morning, usually while the Muppet’s Christmas Carol plays on the TV, and my Dad cooks an amazing & huge Christmas dinner, after which we all collapse and open the presents under the tree.
I really think that Christmas is a holiday best enjoyed with children, and I love seeing everything that we are used to each year seem magical & new through their eyes. Lydia’s first Christmas will be a milestone to enjoy & look back on fondly, and Georgie’s third an adventure for a little girl who will be able to enjoy & understand more than before. Time to get the Christmas CD on, and the carols playing!
I’m excited for my daughters first Christmas this year too! Plus we’ve started weaning so she can enjoy Christmas Dinner with us too (or throw it on the floor)
I really hope that all your house type things sort themselves out sooner rather than later and that 2014 is a brilliant one for you!
The “first Christmas Dinner” is very exciting, isn’t it? My eldest was only 7 months when she had her first Christmas dinner so we hadn’t been weaning long either – she loved it! Lydia really enjoys her food so I’m sure Christmas Dinner will go down very well indeed.
