It’s Daddy!

James is currently visiting for the weekend, arriving after bedtime on Friday evening. Lydia just about saw him for a quick cuddle before heading up to bed, but Georgie’s first glimpse of him was this morning when she woke up, and her morning greeting was a very excited…

“It’s Daddy!”

Both our little girls are very pleased to see their Daddy – for the first time this year! We have spent a lovely day relaxing together, playing & reading, and getting lots of toothy grins from Lydia despite her teething crotchetiness!

James has noticed a lot of changes in the girls; Lydia has grown a huge amount in the first few weeks of this year, and Georgie has shot up a bit too, with her hair starting to grow out more making her looking more little girl and less of a toddler.

Lydia rewarded my Dad’s persistent attempts to teach her to say Daddy by saying it to James twice today, as well as singing “RowRowBoa”(t) to him a few times. She took her first steps a few days ago and other than a small side step, she hasn’t repeated the performance for James yet, but we will have to try tomorrow.

During one of the breaks between rain, rain and more rain, we decided to head out for a quick walk around the village. Georgie had other ideas and set off down the lane, informing me that she wanted to show her Daddy the chickens. So, off we headed down to the farm.

Lydia travelled in style in her new Smart-Trike, which seems very comfy and dealt with the bumpy lane incredibly well. Georgie is a really good walker now so she wandered along – it’s about a mile there & back again so good exercise for little legs!

The girls looked quite cute in their matching (albeit very pink – it was £5 cheaper than the red!) Regatta “Splosh” all-in-one coats. Georgie splashed and splashed in the muddy puddles, fell over into a few of them, ran through them, and was completely bone dry from head to toe when we got back. They were definitely a good investment – we had the size below in red for Georgie and it was a huge success so it was a no brainer buying another one when she grew out of it.

At the end of the track we explored the farm, to see sheep and chickens and cows… along with the cat living at the old farm house, and the resident farm dog too. For some reason the old tractor caused a lot of excitement on this particular visit! Georgie found some truly gigantic puddles to play in and had great fun squishing in the mud.

This evening James and I went out for a nice meal and left the kids with my parents – they all ate together earlier while we were still there, so that Georgie was in bed before we left, and Lydia just having bedtime cuddles before being put down shortly after we headed off.

Georgie requested that Daddy do bath time with them, and read the bedtime stories – she has definitely missed him! Thanks to a disturbed night last night I now feel really tired, but it’s been a lovely day. James goes back to Birmingham on Monday morning, so we are going to make the most of our few days together despite the bags under our eyes.
