I love film adaptations of children’s picture books, and the news that We’re Going on a Bear Hunt has been adapted for Channel 4 this Christmas had me very excited! The girls love this book, and the adaptation of it looks like it’s going to be really good.
The adaptation stars Olivia Colman, Pam Ferris and Mark Williams as the grown ups, and the book author Michael Rosen will be voicing (growling?) the part of the bear himself! There is also a brand new song to look forward to, written and performed by George Ezra.
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt will be aired on Christmas Eve on Channel 4 at 7:30pm, with a repeat on Christmas Day at 5:25pm. There will also be a DVD coming out on Monday 6th February (RRP £10.99) which includes an “extra special bonus read along” and a pair of bear ears. A companion app, that looks like great fun, is available on iOS and Android devices for £2.99.
To celebrate the adaptation of this beautiful children’s classic, Walker Books sent us some little goodies including a beautiful toy bear which Lydia fell head over heels in love with straight away! This wonderful tie-in toy bear is produced by Aurora and is available in three sizes – 14 inch, 9.5 inch, and 8 inch. You can buy these cute cuddly bears from a number of stockists including Waterstones and Amazon.
Long time readers of the blog may remember that we helped to celebrate the 25th birthday of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt a few years ago – and the book is just as beloved now as it was then. The girls keep the board book version in their room to read when they want, and our larger paperback copy is a frequent choice for their bedtime story.
I showed the girls the trailer and they are really looking forward to seeing the story of Stan, Katie, Rosie, Max, the baby and Rufus to dog come to life on the screen.
