Review: I only just got my hands on the new Cake Angels Christmas range at the weekend, and so on Sunday Georgie, Dad & I baked up a storm in time for lunch with family friends yesterday. We had great fun!
We tried out the “Festive Fun Cupcake Kit”, the “White Christmas” decorations selection, and two packs of the “12 Festive Fun” sugar cake toppers.
First up, the Festive Fun kit. This kit makes 10 reasonable sized cupcakes, which require just one egg, a tiny bit of butter, and a little bit of water to make. It comes with icing sugar for basic white icing, and green & red sprinkles to decorate them with. Georgie decided to make her cupcake look extra special by adding some of the Festive Fun sugar cake toppers too.
The directions to bake these cupcakes were simple and easy to follow, and were found printed on the back of the box. I like the fact that they tell you to do 10 instead of 12 cupcakes, as I have always found that the kits who supposedly stretch to 12 cupcakes leave you with a dozen of the stingiest cakes in the world. At least by Cake Angels admitting it makes 10 instead of filling the whole tray, you end up with 10 decent sized cakes instead of 12 tiny ones!
Georgie was incredibly independent whilst making these cakes and insisted on doing almost everything herself. These kits are a fab way to get kids into the kitchen and baking, and this particular one did a great job of proving that. At only two-and-a-half, Georgie was pouring the mixture into the bowl, helping me to count spoonfuls of water being added to the mix, doing lots of stirring, counting the cupcake cases into the tray & spooning in the mixture, pouring the icing & placing the sprinkles and decorations on top.
The cakes themselves taste good, even if Georgie had a bit of a liberal hand with the icing! The sugar cake toppers are really attractive and fun, and great tasting too. We used less than one packet on these cupcakes, and they definitely finished them off nicely.
Our other baking project on Sunday was a cake train using a silicon mould Dad bought recently. Georgie, being train mad, loved this idea, and happily helped her Grandad measure out the ingredients and whizz it up in his mixer. I decorated the cake train after the kids were in bed, and used loads of the White Christmas and Festive Fun decorations.
The White Christmas sprinkles set had four different types of decoration: little chunks of white sugar, tiny chunks of red sugar, silver pearls, and sugar snowmen. The Festive Fun decorations had 4 different designs of sugar decoration, with 3 of each in the packet. These designs were penguins, polar bears, presents & christmas trees.
I was pretty pleased with my Christmas steam train scene! The Cake Angels decorations were the perfect accompaniment to Georgie & Grandad’s train, and finished it off perfectly. It got lots of compliments!
The Cake Angels Christmas range is fun & attractive, as well as being tasty & easy for kids to enjoy. We give these 4 out of 5 stars!
