SquidgeWatch: 39 Weeks, with added drama!

Home Chit Chat SquidgeWatch: 39 Weeks, with added drama!

This week’s SquidgeWatch post is a few days late because we had a little bit of drama on Monday!

While I was sorting out the dishwasher and starting to prepare lunch for Georgie & myself, I managed to fall over. We’re not talking about a small stumble here folks, I went flying and even brought a baby gate down with me! It was one of those bone-jarring falls that leaves you breathless and hurting all over.

I don’t even know how I managed it, I must have just fallen over my own feet. I’m such a klutz! One minute I was walking out of the kitchen reaching to open the gate, and the next I was slamming forward into the pressure-fit baby gate which popped out the doorframe and swung down on its lower fittings, flat onto the floor. I followed its trajectory, smashing both big toes on the bottom of the gate, landing with my knees on the metal bars and my bump on the hard wooden floor of our hallway.

The noise was horrific; a huge crash as the metal gate slammed into the wooden floor, and then a thunk as I landed on top. Georgie came running in & burst into tears at the sight of me sprawled on the floor. She went to try and get my phone for me but couldn’t find it, bless her. Homily just tried to get past me into the kitchen!

After the initial shock wore off I managed to get myself to my phone & called James straight away to come home. The baby, who was wriggling away like mad before the fall, had gone completely silent & still. It usually pokes back when you prod it, but there was no reaction at all when I pressed my belly. I managed to get hold of some self control from somewhere, and rang the hospital to tell them what had happened, and that Squidge hadn’t moved since. They asked me a few questions, then told me to come straight in to get checked out.

James got home a short while later and we gathered a few things together and set off to the hospital. I felt a few tiny nudges inside my belly and my terror started to fade away slightly with each little movement. Once we were at the day assessment unit & waiting I was able to feel much calmer, and Squidge was definitely starting to return to his/her normal squirming self.

They put me on a trace and took all my vitals, thankfully everything was absolutely fine. The trace was almost textbook perfect, apart from Squidge falling asleep after about half an hour & going quiet again! They sat me up a bit an he/she soon started to wriggle a bit more. James and I were so relieved and happy to hear the heart beating away and watch my bump move about.

Georgie was an absolute angel at the hospital, we were both amazed at how well she behaved, especially as she hadn’t had a proper lunch and it was starting to get closer to nap time! She was happy to just sit on James’s lap and look around to start with, listening to the heartbeat monitors. After a while she got down but was content to sit on the floor with her snack & her drink, or stand next to us and play with my bed. She also entertained the midwives & other ladies by dancing along to the radio & doing some twirling! There was absolutely no impatience or fuss from her, she just seemed to accept that mummy needed to be messed with by the midwives (something she usually disapproves of) and that she had to be a good girl until we were done.

After everything was pronounced to be fine we headed home & James tucked me up on the sofa with a blanket and made me a very late lunch! I was very sore after the fall, and we both felt very tired out after all the drama. I was still in a lot of pain yesterday so James worked from home & looked after me & Georgie so I could have a lie in and then relax on the sofa for the rest of the day. I definitely needed it! Just getting up to go to the toilet was really painful and as the overall pain started to fade away it became apparent which parts of myself I managed to damage more than others. I strapped up my ankle for the day as it felt a bit twisted, and my knees & toes were also aching a bit more than everything else! My poor baby bump feels quite bruised, and large movements have been making me wince a bit.

Thankfully I’m feeling a lot better today & can hobble about without too much pain! I’m having a pj day on the sofa with a very cuddly toddler & dog. James sorted breakfast out for us this morning, and made things easy for me to get lunch ready too, what a sweetheart. I’m quite glad the baby didn’t decide to come yesterday while I was in so much pain still, but I’m back to hoping that things kick off soon now! I’m looking forward to meeting my baby Squidge 🙂

  1. Wow! Talk about heart-stopping! So glad Squidge is ok and that you’re starting to feel better too. I think you should stay on the sofa until he/she arrives now for your own safety!! You take care of yourself lady. I want the next post to be about your happy birth please!!
