As regular readers of my blog will be aware, I am staying with my parents for a few months until the purchase of our first house completes. James is staying with his Mum while the girls are here with me, and he has joined us all down here for a week over Christmas & his birthday.
On Christmas Eve, we hung the girls’ stockings up in their room, and so when Georgie woke up (after spending most the night in our bed – not ideal!) she was delighted to see them both stuffed full of gifts from Santa. Before breakfast everyone piled onto Grandma & Grandad’s bed for the opening of stocking presents, with a third stocking discovered outside my parents’ room just for them! It seems Father Christmas just couldn’t resist the temptation to leave a stocking for my parents to open together 😉
We put up the tree and decorated the house after the children went to bed on Christmas Eve, and so after opening their stocking gifts the girls came downstairs and were amazed by everything. Christmas is so much more magical through a child’s eyes, and seeing Georgie discover the Christmas tree with piles of presents beneath was just fantastic.
Christmas morning was spent playing with new stocking toys, and James and I took the girls for a walk down the village and back while Dad cooked an amazing Christmas dinner and Mum had 15 minutes of peace to set the table! We ate lots of very delicious food then collapsed in the living room to open presents. Georgie did a great job distributing gifts as I brought in a box at a time from under the tree, and handed them to her with instructions of whose was whose.
It was incredibly sweet when she came to unwrap her toys, or “help” Lydia to unwrap hers. For her own gifts, she went to sit in her small chair or on someone’s lap to unwrap them, and for Lydia’s she sat on the floor next to her before tearing off the paper and presenting her little sister with the contents. The whole process was fairly tidy, as Georgie took on the job of putting discarded wrapping paper into a box. Both girls were very well behaved throughout the whole day… phew!
All of the presents for the children from family & friends, as well as the ones we chose ourselves, were all amazing successes. Both Lydia and Georgie seem to really love all the gifts they received and we are very grateful for all the lovely presents they were given, there are some really wonderful toys being very happily played with over the last few days.
I flicked the camera over to video on & off throughout the day to record snatches of what we were up to, and I think this video sums up our day pretty well…

I am so glad to see you are having a wonderful time. GladJames came to spend Christmas with you too – it looks a real special family time. Georgie & Lydia look so much like you don’t they! Am loving the magic moments like with your mom and her necklace. Hope you have a very Happy New Year x
Thanks! We had been planning to spend Lydia’s first Christmas here since before she was born, and James booked the holiday as soon as his holiday year started back in April 🙂 there is definitely something magical about Christmas here, especially with the children. Happy New Year!
