As part of our role as ambassadors for the Birmingham Sea Life Centre, we have been given Sea Life annual passes for our whole family, so we are able to visit as much as we like. The great thing about the Sea Life annual pass is that it gets you admission to all of the Sea Life centres outside of London (and the ones inside theme parks), which includes the Cornish Seal Sanctuary down at Gweek.

While we were staying with my parents at the beginning of the summer, we decided to take a trip down to the Seal Sanctuary with my parents, to visit their sea creatures and have a nice family day out. My parents were able to use club card vouchers to get their tickets – usually an adult ticket on the door is £14.95, kids are £12.50, and a family ticket for two adults and two children is £46.20. You can get significant discounts by buying online ahead of your visit, too.
The girls really enjoyed the Seal Sanctuary – as well as seals they have a range of other sea life, including penguins – the girls’ favourite! We went to several of the talks and watched the otters, some of the seals and the penguins all being fed which was lovely to watch. The staff are all clearly passionate about the centre and all the great work they do for conservation, and they were brilliant with the kids.
We ate lunch at the Sanctuary cafe, which wasn’t too overpriced and tasted great (the chips were delicious), and the girls also enjoyed letting off some steam on the excellent play area. The Sanctuary allows dogs in so we were able to take Homily in with us too – there weren’t many areas that she couldn’t go in so that was nice.
I thought the rock pool area was really great, and we loved being able to look under the water at the sides of the pools, and with their viewing things. Another firm favourite of the whole family was being able to see underwater in the Sea Lion pool, and we stood there for ages watching them swim past. They are so huge!
It was a great day out and I heartily recommend a visit to any sea life loving visitors to the area. Everybody really enjoyed themselves, and it is big enough to keep you entertained for hours.
