Introducing Teddy

Home Chit Chat Introducing Teddy

For Christmas, Mum and Dad bought Georgie the Bigjigs Toys Daisy Doll Cradle for her beloved Melody doll. It was an instant success and she loves it very much. The crib has a lovely rocking motion and is really solidly built – Lydia has had a few goes in it, happily being rocked by her big sister!

Every night Melody is tucked into bed in her new crib, before Georgie goes to sleep.

I’m afraid to say some days Melody doesn’t get up at all and sleeps the day away… if Georgie spots that she hasn’t got Melody out of bed she exclaims worriedly “Oh! Melody’s still in bed!” and pulls her out as soon as she can.

Now that we have a second Bigjigs Toys doll in our family, Nancy, the two dolls sleep top & tail style in the rocking crib. It’s a little bit of a squash but Georgie is happy with the arrangement. Melody is obviously still the favourite, as she gets the pillow!

The only issue we have had with the new crib is that Georgie was worried that Melody had no toys to go to bed with, and so  she was piling all of her bedtime toys in with Melody, leaving only one for herself. Usually Cork! Melody was no longer lonely in the middle of the night, but when Georgie woke up scared after any bad dreams, she had none of her usual “friends” to comfort her.

It's starting to look a bit crowded!

To save Georgie from further distress, my Mum has been very kind and knitted Melody her very own teddy bear!

Isn’t it adorable? I’m not sure why, but so often the smaller things get, the cuter they are. Now, Melody and Nancy go to bed each night with “Teddy… Melody’s Teddy” and maybe just one or two of the smaller toys like Cork, or Baby Furby.

Well, the idea has worked most nights anyway, since Teddy joined the family… Thursday night the crib was overloaded again with everyone apart from Bambi, who was the “chosen one” for the night, cuddled up with Georgie.

All this bedtime toy arranging takes quite a bit of time to sort out, it really does. Maybe it’s all just a ploy on Georgie’s part to give her an extra 5 minutes before going to sleep, not just her slight OCD tendencies showing up again?

  1. When Kenny’s beloved Teddy got so worn, his stuffing was falling out, Mum knitted him a jumper and trousers, which she sewed onto him! Teddy looked great in his new togs and Kenny was thrilled!
