Lydia is 7 months old now, and time is flying by fast.
She is sitting up well on her own, although she can’t quite get herself up to the sitting position from completely laying down on her own. Pulling herself up, or starting from lying at an angle, she can do. Once she’s up she sits up as long as she likes – no wobbling in sight.
Lydia is rolling all over the place, and wiggles around the floor so fast! I don’t know if she will bother crawling any time soon, she seems to be getting where she wants to go with a combination of commando-style wriggling (mostly backwards) and rolling – so the motivation to actually crawl seems to be lacking. Georgie keeps trying to help her get up onto her knees and giving her crawling demonstrations!
Georgie has now decided that Lydia should be nicknamed “Leah” and refuses to call her anything other than “Leah” or “Leahbum” (that one is our fault, as we call her Lydiebum!). We know she is perfectly capable of calling her Lydia or Lydie, I think she’s just being lazy.
Lydia loves her big sister and watches her all day with huge smiles on her face. If Georgie plays with her she just about explodes with excitement, even if Georgie hurts her by accident. Georgie can be a little enthusiastic at times! They both love to play Row, row, row your boat.
Georgie has started reading books with her, which is just incredibly cute to watch. She has also taken on the responsibility of taking away toys and things that she thinks Lydia shouldn’t be playing with, removing them from her hands (or mouth!) with the words “No Leah, too little!”
Lydia adores food – she is so greedy! She hasn’t refused anything we have tried and is happily eating 3 meals a day, and as many snacks as we give her in between. If Georgie is napping late in the evening and delays dinner, Lydia is not happy… not happy AT ALL.
She is a huge Daddy’s girl and waits impatiently for James to come home from work each day. As soon as he walks into the room Lydie breaks out into a HUGE grin and leans forward towards him for a cuddle. Quite often if James starts speaking Lydia will whip her head around at breakneck speed and stare at him as if she understands every word.
Despite definite signs of teething, Lydia is a very good natured baby. Thankfully, and unlike her big sister, she really likes to chomp away on teethers which seems to help a lot. Georgie used to ignore teethers almost entirely, so it’s a relief to have a baby who uses them and gets relief that way.
She sleeps well at night, and naps once or twice each day – either two shorter naps or one long one in the afternoon. She is still doing well with breastfeeding, and I love our snuggly feeds. Our little Lydie is a thumbsucker, which I must admit I find incredibly cute.
Lydia really enjoys the bath, especially when she and Georgie go in together. We got a great bath seat from Kiddicare and they love splashing around with each other. Lydia fishes her arms about in the water and collects as many toys as she can, dumping them on her lap in the seat.
A slight addiction to snagging bits of paper out of thin air to chomp away on seems to have started in the last month… we have to be very careful about what we leave within a 2 metre radius of Lydia! She seems to acquire important letters, which I could have sworn we sat up out of reach! Maybe Georgie is smuggling her the bills – I wonder if that means we don’t have to pay them? “Sorry sir, I can’t pay… the baby ate it” … somehow, I don’t think we’d get away with it.
Her newborn days are definitely far behind her and she will be a toddler before I know it, this year is going so quickly. The next Lydia update I get around to will probably be telling you about her first words at this rate! Here are a few photos of our beautiful baby girl…
