This morning we headed to the doctors surgery for Lydia’s 6-8 week review and first round of immunisations. Everything went smoothly; all the checks were fine, and she only cried for half a minute after having her jabs.
Georgie played the role of protective older sister to a T – she watched carefully as the doctor did all the checks, and kept telling me he was messing with her baby sister by pointing and making a growly concerned noise. When Lydia was crying after being stabbed, Georgie gave her a big hug. Lydia wasn’t at all fussed by the doctor messing with her and gave him a great big smile at one point.
The health visitor came around yesterday so we were able to skip the measurements today; Lydia is now 5.45 kg (12 lbs) and 57cm long – she is sitting nicely on her percentile lines, so that’s all fine.
Our only slight concern is the strawberry birthmark on her forehead, which we started to notice at around 3 or 4 weeks, and has being growing and darkening ever since. The doctor is going to keep an eye on it at her various checks as it might grow further, and become a cause for concern if it starts to impede on her vision etc. It will fade eventually, and most likely by the time she starts school.
I went back and looked at my photos of Lydia and you can see it start to appear quite early on if you look in the right place. The earliest I could find it was at 6 days, when it was just a teeny tiny mark. Click on the images to see them at their full (huge) resolution.
As long as it doesn’t interfere with her health, James and I aren’t bothered by the mark. It is part of who she is after all, and we think she is completely beautiful! It is obviously still growing – if you look closely and compare her today to the photo two days ago, you can spot a change already. Hopefully it won’t grow so much that it starts to cause a problem, and we can leave it untreated to fade naturally when the time comes. We’re prepared for the inevitable comments on it, and have had a few already.
I’m pleased that today’s appointment went well and that Georgie was so well behaved while Lydia was being seen to, after the dramas we experienced with my midwife appointments – she was terrified of Viv and the blood pressure machine, and would transform into a little tantrum monster at every appointment.

Has his gotten darker or bigger at all? Lydia’s really is changing fast when you look at the photos.
It’s grown and darkened a bit recently. I didn’t notice too much at first until a couple of weeks back when my dad and a few other people who don’t see him often asked what the mark on his head was. Was enough of a change for people who’d seen it before to think it was something new. It’s not as bright as Lydia’s though. Just been told to go back if I get worried xx
