Review: Thomas & Friends Amazing ABC

Georgie loves trains, and really enjoys anything Thomas the Tank Engine, so when we were sent this book to review she was incredibly excited! It’s a lovely big ABC book, with loads of flaps and interesting things to explore.

It is an ABC book, so the text goes “A is for Annie, B is for Bertie, C is for Call,” and so on. The variety of things chosen for each letter are great; not every letter is a train engine! Of course, the favourites are in there, and T is for Thomas! This book is an attractive square hardback book measuring around 25 x 25cm.

Review: Olly the Little White Van Books

We were sent a selection of books based on the new Olly the Little White Van tv show that is currently aired on Milkshake, Channel 5’s kids tv offering. Georgie and Lydia don’t really watch Milkshake but I showed them the show on the 5 on Demand player and they really enjoyed it. We’d already looked at the books before I showed them the show, and Georgie was able to name the four main characters, and Olly’s driver Stan too.

Review: Everybody Loves Butterflies, by Tanis Taylor and Masumi Furukawa

This picture book is a story about accepting change, using the tale of a caterpillar changing into a butterfly. Little Caterpillar is initially resistant to the idea of becoming a butterfly, but eventually accepts that he will still be himself after the change, just with wings.

Review: Parragon Finger Puppet Books (Little Learners)

These little finger puppet books are simply adorable. The illustrations are so cute and the puppets match perfectly. I love the slightly muted pastel colours in these books, proving that not all children’s books have to be super-bright and brash to be appealing.

Review: Tuck Me In! by Dean Hacohen & Sherry Scharschmidt (Walker Books)

When this book arrived, both myself and Georgie were both instantly drawn to it. The bright colours, playful illustrations and big flaps provide a huge amount of appeal to a two year old. We have now read it quite a few times – and multiple occasions on one day too, which is a rarity for our little girl, who will usually only read each of her books once per day.

Georgie really enjoys this book, with its fun photos, patterns and colours. It is full of every day things and our little girl is very pleased with herself that she can identify almost everything within its pages.

Review: Can You Dance to the Boogaloo?

Although I love the look of this book, with its fabulous illustrations and emphasis on encouraging your child to make music, I am struggling to like it whenever I read it to Georgie.

“Can you Dance to the Boogaloo” isn’t really a story book – more of a book about music, dance and is basically just about “getting your groove on”!

Review: The Monster Book Of Numbers & The Monster Book Of Colours

The Monster Book of… series is a fun new approach to education books for young children. The first two books in the range, numbers & colours, were sent to us for Georgie to review a few months ago. Georgie is starting to learn both her numbers and her colours quite well now, so we have been able to use these books to help her out.

This book is incredible fun, Georgie loved it from the very first moment she saw it.

In Spaghetti with the Yeti, a boy called George sets off on an quest to find the Yeti. The pace, rthymn & rhyme of this book are all perfect, making this a pleasure to read aloud.
