We went to stay in Ireland for a week in December, visiting my father-in-law Anthony & his wife Jen. Although the weather was very cold and windy we had a lovely stay, and it was great for Georgie to be able to spend so much time with her Grandfather & “Grandma Jen” – she hasn’t had much time to bond with them or for them to get to know her in the past, because of the minor fact of them living in another country!
While we were there we spent some time exploring – we visited Sligo, did a bit of shopping, had numerous coffees and meals out (enjoying some Irish beef!), and generally had a nice relaxing holiday. Georgie wasn’t keen on the cold weather and we had to turn around & head back to the car every time we tried to take her for a walk in one of the slings, unfortunately – even wrapped up the wind and rain/sleet/snow were just too much for her (and for me too!).
The travelling was interesting to say the least – although to her credit my little Georgiana was incredibly well behaved, with minimum fuss and tears! The journey over we broke overnight with a stay in a Travelodge in North Wales, but on the way back we started early and drove across Ireland, took a 2 hour ferry journey, then drove across Wales and half of England to get home in one day! At one point we didn’t think we would even make it off the island because the weather was so awful and the roads were incredibly treacherous with the ice – James was fantastic but we still nearly came off the road a few times, and witnessed a worrying number of accidents and abandoned cars as we drove across the country!
