My Sunday Photo

My Sunday Photo – Boxes

As you can imagine, one week after moving in to our new house, I feel somewhat swamped by half unpacked boxes and we are currently living in a complete state of disarray!

During the week I tried to do as much as I could to sort things out but there are certain things that I can’t do – sorting the kitchen out properly would be pointless as we will be temporarily removing a unit soon to fit our new cooker, and I can’t store the shed stuff in the shed until we repair the leaking roof.

Every time I feel like I haven’t done enough yet, I head outside to put a few more flattened boxes away in our (slightly damp!) shed, and the sight that greets me there makes me feel like I am making progress after all!

My Sunday Photo – Sitting in the grass

This week after playgroup we headed to the play area behind the hall and the girls had a fab time on the swings, slides and other play equipment. Lydia just had her soft leather shoes on but as it was just grass we let her toddle about a bit.

Lydia hasn’t really been able to sit on grass since last summer so it was almost like a new experience for her.

The ground has been so muddy over the last few months that whenever we have been outside Lydia has been in someones arms, in the wrap, or in a pushchair or smart-trike. The hard soled shoes that we had for Georgie at this age were all in storage, and we haven’t been able to go anywhere to buy Lydia a “first pair of shoes” so our poor girl hasn’t really been able to walk around outside yet.

My Sunday Photo – Horseplay with Daddy

There are some lovely, yet fairly ordinary, moments that always make me wish my camera was to hand, and last Sunday I luckily had my camera within reach when one of them happened. James was visiting for the weekend and before he left he wanted to make sure he had plenty of Lydia time… they were being silly and playing together in the way that only Daddies and their children can, and this happened:

My Sunday Photo - Horseplay with Daddy

So much joy in Lydie’s face; “Daddy is here, and we are playing together!” A few hours after this, Lydia was asleep having her nap and James drove away again, back to his Mum’s house, and back to work. BUT this time next week we will have just woken up from our first night in our new house, and we will all be living together again, for the first time this year! I am getting very excited.

One of the reasons I loved this photo so much, and this moment, was because Lydia has had so little Daddy time over the past 3 months, to see her playing so happily and joyfully with James was absolutely wonderful. Lydie is a big Daddy’s girl and it was a difficult thing to do, separating her from her favourite person in the whole world. While we’ve been staying here she has latched herself on to my Dad instead, but going by these photos I don’t think it will take long for James and his LydieLiz to regain the close relationship they had before we were “stranded in Cornwall”

And just because I can’t resist, a few more…

My Sunday Photo – Playing together

20140302-072902.jpg

I love it when these two play together. It is happening more & more as Lydia gets older, and she is able to play with more of the same toys, and understand what Georgie wants her to do.

In this photo Georgie is teaching her little sister to place the rings on the pegs, and she was fetching more rings for Lydia too.

Georgie hated the fact Lydia was putting any colour ring anywhere, as she does love everything to be in the correct place. After I explained that Lydia didn’t understand she was allowing it, but only just!

My Sunday Photo – Slipper flipping!

I posted recently about Georgie’s burgeoning interest in taking photos, and so it’s no real surprise that she is already taking over a My Sunday Photo post! This photo was taken by Georgie yesterday morning, as she watched and laughed at Grandad being silly – Dad was flipping his slipper up and catching it, before putting it back on and repeating the trick.

Dad slipper flipping

I think it’s quite a good photo, complete with motion blur on the flipping foot, and the flying slipper at the top of the shot!

The timing was probably quite accidental, but the framing of her Grandad was very deliberate; Dad and I were teaching Georgie how to hold the camera so she could see the screen and press the shutter button at the same time, while carrying it around. She was concentrating very hard on pointing the camera in the right direction before pressing the button!

In the meantime, Lydia was fascinated by Grandad’s slipper antics…

My Sunday Photo – Glasses

Lego Glasses

We went to Specsavers this week to pick up my new glasses, and so that Dad could choose and buy a new spare pair for himself. Georgie has now been into this Specsavers three or four times, and is starting to feel quite at home, especially as all the assistants indulge her antics and smile fondly at her as she wanders about.

Georgie really enjoys trying on the various kids glasses, and was running from where I was standing by the stand of frames, to where her Grandad was around the corner organising the purchase of his new glasses, in order to show off each pair of frames. All the staff thought she was hilarious and very cute – she definitely has a face for glasses as every pair she tried on suited her quite nicely, even the most ridiculous pairs.

After wearing the frames, Georgie informed me that they needed washing… the stickers on the lenses were obscuring her view through them!

Just in case you’re interested, here are my new glasses. They are for using my laptop, and other close up work like crochet, etc. The prescription is pathetic as my vision isn’t far off perfect, but they should help when I’m tired and my eyes are feeling strained. Hopefully this will help with my headaches, which although not nearly as bad as they used to be, are still quite bad when I am stressed or tired.

My Sunday Photo – Peepo!

Lydia is really into playing peepo at the moment, and can be found playing with her bowl or plate after most meals. I shouldn’t really encourage her as she gets even messier than usual, but it is just so cute! She can’t say “peepo” or “peekaboo” yet, but instead Lydia makes this adorable noise as …

My Sunday Photo – Zentangle (Diva Challenge #152)

Zentangle

This weeks Sunday Photo is something a little bit different… a Zentangle doodle. I have been experimenting with structured doodling after a friend of mine posted her doodles on Facebook, and then created a fab little iPhone/Android app with pattern guides.

After seeing Katherine’s entry into the Diva Challenge linky using the “Aquafleur” pattern, I decided to have a go. This is the result! I had to create a Zentangle doodle incorporating the pattern, so I started with a large one in the centre of the page and spread out from there.

I’ve been feeling really stressed this week, and missing the support of James so much, especially with the kids. My parents are being great, but it’s always going to be more difficult when you’re not in your own home. I have this feeling of “I just want to go home” but there is no home to go to… yet! The good news is everything is in place for our seller’s return from wherever he is, and so hopefully things will speed up in a few weeks and we will be in our new home soon.

With all the stress and how ill I’ve been feeling, finding a new way to “unplug” and relax is great. Normally when I feel like this I find solace in hiding away in my bedroom with a jigsaw puzzle, but my puzzle board and all of my jigsaws are in storage! Sometimes it is good to relax and disconnect from the online world, and not just to do something with the girls, but to do something to calm my mind and help me destress.

My Mum must approve of me doodling away my stress, as she let me raid her amazing stationery stash for a bunch of fineline pens, and also came home from work one day having bought me a nice thick plain jotter pad.

My Sunday Photo – Play-Doh fun

IMG_5962

Earlier in the week, Georgie asked to play with Mum’s excellent collection of Play-Doh and accessories. Along with a range of colours (50 small pots given to her as a joke present on her 50th birthday), Mum has a selection of cookie cookers, shape squeezy things, and a mini rolling pin to make creations with.

Lydia was snoozing away upstairs, so Georgie and I settled in on the dining room table with our goodies and a few bits and pieces from the tea set too.

We made lots of pretend food, including purple peas and pineapple rings, yellow chips (although she was annoyed they weren’t purple too!), and a large purple apple. Georgie had loads of fun in the world of make-believe, pretending to chomp away at the food with great gusto, and some brilliant sound effects!

After we made food, Georgie asked me to make “wiggly worms” with one of Mum’s presses, and then a clump of these were treated to Georgie’s entire bedtime routine. I was required to make a Play-Doh bath, followed by a small tube of moisturiser, then a bed, a bedtime story, and so on!

Georgie was kept amused for several hours whilst we rolled and squeezed and patted and shaped.

My Sunday Photo – Sleeping

Lydia sleeping

It’s been a bit of a tough few weeks for my two girls in terms of sleep. Usually both of them are fond of a good solid night of sleep, but lately things have been getting in the way of their snooze time. I seem to have been sharing my bed a lot over the last week, for extra feeds, snuggle time, and even a whole night of wriggly toddler once or twice.

Lydia has suddenly started to sprout teeth; when we arrived in Cornwall 5 weeks ago she had none at all, and now her fifth is about to cut. She copes with teething pain fairly well in the day, but has been struggling to sleep with it bugging her at night. Combine this with extra feeds and early morning hungry baby wake ups due to her recent growth spurt, and Lydie has been far from settled lately in the night.

As for Georgie, she has been battling this flu bug for about a month and although most of the symptoms were gone by Christmas, she has been having problems with a lingering cough bothering her at night time. Luckily toddler cough syrup has been helping with this over the last week, and she seems to finally be headed back to 100%.

A few bad dreams this week haven’t helped matters either! Anyone for a lie in??
